Gouhasou (ToR)

Gouhasou as it appears in Tales of Rebirth.

Roaring Spear (轟破槍 Gouhasou?, "Roaring Tearing Spear") is an Earth-elemental lance-based strike arte associated with Eugene Gallardo from Tales of Rebirth and Ricardo Soldato from Tales of Innocence.

Arte Description and History[]

The user thrusts the blade of their weapon vertically into the ground, forcing rock spikes to shoot from the ground. These rock spikes surround the user within a small rock formation while damaging and pushing away any nearby enemies, often launching them into the air without forcing a knockdown effect. This attack can be used as a defensive measure, shielding the user for a short time while repelling any nearby enemies. However, it is impossible to chain this arte into additional attacks unless the target is held against a wall on the battlefield, as the knock-back effect is large enough to put the enemy out of range of most strike artes. The amount of rock spikes and the direction they face varies from title to title.

In Tales of Rebirth, Eugene switches the grip on his spear from his fingers and plunges it into the ground, forcing one rock spike on each side of him to shoot out. In his transition to 3D, Eugene turns the grip switch into a clockwise twirl with both of his hands. In Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, the rock spikes appear in front of and behind Eugene. In Tales of V.S, each spike has an additional two smaller spikes surrounding them. In Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3, the amount is reduced to four spikes surrounding the spear. In Tales of the Rays, Eugene slashes upward as he switches the grip on his spear from his thumb, before plunging his spear, summoning the spikes from V.S. on each side.

In Tales of Innocence, Ricardo Soldato thrusts the blade of his bayonet into the ground. In the original DS game, he creates three rock spikes around the blade. In Tales of Innocence R, it is a singular spike in the direction of the blade.

In Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, Magnar leaps into the air before slamming his speartip into the ground as Earth energy flies around him.

In Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, Mel performs this arte in her Ranseur costume. She performs a spin while twirling her weapon, before hopping, then piercing the ground with it, creating a shockwave around her.
