Ami Burklight is Chester Burklight's younger sister, toward whom he acts as a parental figure following the deaths of their parents at an unspecified time before the beginning of the game. She was killed by the Knights in Black Armour of the Kingdom of Euclid during an attack on the village of Toltus ordered by Mars, who was at the time in search of the pendant carried by Cress Albane, at the beginning of Tales of Phantasia. According to Chester, she harboured a crush on Cress as well, further indicated when she gives Cress a stuffed version of himself before he and Chester depart for the Forest of Spirits to the south of Toltus.

Chester later reveals regret for not having been able to avenge her, as Mars was killed by Dhaos before either Cress or Chester had any chance to confront him.

Ami later appears in Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2 and Narikiri Dungeon 3 as a playable costume that can be equipped by Kyaro Orange.
