Calegia (カレギア Karegia?, "Callegea") is the name of the universal kingdom in Tales of Rebirth. Although the planet itself is unnamed, "Calegia" is used to refer to the world as a whole due to the ubiquity of the kingdom.

Geography[]

Overview[]

Calegia's major settlements appear on all its continents, which are mostly connected, ranging from mountain, valley, forest, desert, swamp, and wasteland areas. Sulz is a small village nestled in the northwestern mountain area of Calegia that is connected to the remainder of the large continent by the Great Larulen Bridge. Keketto Road connects the bridge to Keketto Hostel, and the Alvan Mountains separate this area from Belsas and its harbor. Just south of Keketto Hostel and surrounded by the Alvan Mountains is Etoray Bridge. Directly to the west is a large island harboring the Shrine of Gilione, and to the east lies Minal, a small port town that rests on the coast, as well as the Minal Plains (ミナール平原?).

South of Etoray Bridge is the Forest Labyrinth, which leads to Petnadjanka and Toyohose Hostel. This hostel sits on the Toyohose River, which carves the continent. Southeast of here lies the continental island of Sannytown, and to the southwest of it, Tel Alla Hostel, connected to Sannytown by the Tel Alla Highway. Near the hostel is an underground passage of waterways known as Karez that leads further into the Kurodadaku Desert, where the village of Anikamal on the western side of the desert and a small Oasis on the eastern side can both be found. Far southeast of the desert, past the Shirag Bridge, lies Babilograd, its harbor, and Climbers' Cavern, which grants access to the city from the south side of the large mountain in which it rests. Directly north of Babilograd is the continent that houses the kingdom's capital, Balka, as well as its harbor, its prison, Mount Sovereign, and Mesechina Cavern.

To the east of the continent lies another, which is large and consists of small forest areas, the Zeren Wetlands (ゼレン湿原?), and more desert. On the western side of the continent rests Razilda and its harbor. To the south of Razilda is the Azura Coast, which marks the Razildan Sea. Southeast of Razilda and in the midst of the Zeren Wetlands lies the Shrine of Eephon in a spring. The southern, desert portion of the continent is known as the Tsurubena Wastelands and is home to Pipista, numerous Flame-holders, and the Shrine of Fenia. The continent is connected to its northern continent by the Great Pokunan Bridge. On this northern continent, the northeastern part of Calegia, rests the peaceful village of Kyogen and its nearby hostel. Directly to the north of here, nestled at the tip of a mountain, lies the Lenpao Sky Garden.

The northern half of the continent is a cold, icy region that is divided by the Osmina Mountain Range. The southeastern side of the continent, known as the Beo Plains (ベオ平原?), houses the Shrine of Wontiga. Slightly northwest of this shrine, along the coast, rests the snowy village of Nolzen. Northeast of Nolzen is the hidden Mocrado Village, embedded in a mountain, and the Nejana Peninsula, which contains the Tower of Nereg and its nearby hostel. This continent is connected to the western lands of Calegia by a long strip of iceland, containing only a small island, which houses Rabbitz Village, on its northeastern side, and Cyglorg's Chambers on its mid-western side. Additionally, a small chain of hostels known as Farm Fresh Groceries sell various kinds of produce and can be found throughout the world.

History[]

Calegia Emblem (ToR)

The official emblem of Calegia, representing both Huma and Gajuma.

Two major races, sometimes called tribes, of people exist: Huma, who are said to govern knowledge, and Gajuma, who are said to govern power. The relationship between Huma and Gajuma is peaceful at times yet wanes at others. In the past, Huma and Gajuma lived entirely isolated from one another. The Divine King Geyorkias sought to eliminate all Huma so that the dissent between the two races would cease, as Huma had undergone a marked cultural development and waged war against Gajuma in attempt to subject them to Huma's rule. However, the Six Saints came into conflict with the Divine King due to their opposing ideals, believing that the relationship between Huma and Gajuma was merely the "workings of nature", and overcame him, sealing him away.

After the battle, the earth became impoverished, weakening the Six Saints and leaving Huma and Gajuma with no direction. This resulted in the Huma race continuing to exist despite the hatred that incessantly built between the two races, the "impression", as it is called, which has always existed. Over time, Huma and Gajuma learned to co-exist, and together, the two races eventually formed the kingdom of Calegia. Ever since its founding, Calegia has always had Gajuma rulers, with its first being the ancient hero, King Goldba, who, along with many others, officially established the kingdom. Due to Goldba's efforts, this event of the kingdom's establishment, which was followed by a ceremony at Mount Sovereign, became known as the "Day of Goldba".

Peace and prosperity continued for many generations until the death of King Ladras Lindblum, an event known as the Dusk of Ladras. Force is a mysterious power over an element or something other that previously only Gajuma possessed; however, since Ladras's death, Huma have gained this power as well, resulting in their inability to control it. This caused great destruction, and peace has gradually begun to fade in the kingdom as Viruses, the manifestation of nature in monster-form, across the world have increased in number. Since Ladras's death, his daughter, Agarte Lindblum, has usurped power and guides the kingdom alongside her adviser, Zilva Madigan. During the events of the story, Agarte restricts sea travel to prepare for her crowning ceremony at the ritual dais atop Calegia Castle in Balka.
