Desier

Desier (デズエール, Dezueeru^?) is a continent of Terca Lumireis in Tales of Vesperia. It is one of the world's largest continents and geographically sits in the southwestern portion of the map.

Geography[]

Desier is a large, desert-like continent boasting the enormous Cados Mountain Range (母なるカドス山脈, Hahanaru Kadosu Sanmyaku^?, "Mother Cados Mountains"). It also yields the fearsome Sands of Kogorh, a dangerous stretch of desert that encompasses a large portion of the continent. With such harsh, rugged terrain and living conditions, few settlements exist on Desier, but its most notable is Nordopolica, the coliseum city of the world run by Palestralle, a non-Union guild. Nordopolica rests in the green, seaside part of the continent, also functioning as a port.

Towns[]

Nordopolica - A city famed worldwide for its large coliseum. It also functions as a port.
Mantaic - A desert town built on an oasis where travelers can find water and solace from the otherwise harsh conditions of the area.
Yormgen - A strangely tranquil town with a surreal feel to it. Later in the story, it is revealed to be a settlement of the past illusioned into modern existence.

Weasand of Cados[]

The Weasand of Cados (カドスの喉笛, Kadosu no Nodobue^?) is a cavern dungeon located between Nordopolica and Mantaic. It is described as a cave in the Cados Mountains and serves as a nest to vicious monsters. The group chases Regaey to the Weasand of Cados in order to retrieve the box he stole back in Nordopolica, but there is no sign of him. Estelle and Raven deduce that he escaped through the cave in order to reach the other side of the mountain. Karol Capel then informs the group they are in the Weasand of Cados, home to a dangerous monster named "Pteropus" that lives in the dungeon. Judith states Regaey must have went inside without knowing this fact. Suddenly, Repede finds him hiding behind a wall, hoping the group would pass by him. When Yuri Lowell asks what he is trying to gain by setting them up at the coliseum in Nordopolica, and when Rita Mordio orders him to give back the box he stole, he calls forth members from Leviathan's Claw to cover him while he escapes.

After the struggle, the group assumes Ruins' Gate and Leviathan's Claw are connected somehow. When Karol asks how a famous guild like Ruins' Gate could do something like this, Judith moves ahead, stating Regaey will get away if they fail to hurry. However, Karol reminds the group of the monster, and Raven states he cannot go far from Nordopolica without getting his letter to Belius; he also states that, if he fails to do so, Don Whitehorse will give him an even more tedious job. The group moves forward and leaves Raven behind, though he follows anyway. Further inside, the group finds Regaey on the other side of a cave river. Suddenly, the water begins to glow, and the group soon realizes that the substance in the river is not water but aer. The event reminds Rita of what happened in Keiv Moc, which leads her to believe there is an aer krene in the cave as well. When Raven asks what the group plans to do, Yuri suggests they continue, but Judith hesitates, claiming it to be too dangerous. Regaey thanks his good fortune and runs, but he becomes blocked by more concentrated aer.

The mountain then begins to shake, and a giant dragon appears. Yuri asks Karol if the creature is the monster he referred to earlier, but Karol claims he has never seen anything like this creature. The dragon begins to absorb the aer into itself, resulting in the surrounding area becoming unstable. Everyone is only able to move again once the aer becomes stabilized, and Regaey escapes again. Rita enters the aer flow, suggesting it safe to traverse. Hoping to study the aer krene, Rita is thwarted by the group, who persuades her in continuing their pursuit. At the exit, the group catches Regaey, who is being blocked by a wall of bats. Repede manages to retrieve the box from Regaey, but Regaey soon reveals himself to be Yeager, leader of Leviathan's Claw. Yeager then mentions Ragou's fate. When Estelle asks what happened to Ragou, Yeager tells the group that the Imperial Knights found his body face-down in a riverbed near Heliord.

Estelle then attempts to stop Yeager from once again escaping, but Gauche and Droite appear and clear a path through the bats for him to escape. The bats then group together to form the "Pteropus" and knock the twins backward. After defeating the monster, Estelle heals the twins, but Gauche tells her not to bother as they do not need help from enemies. Estelle tells the twins they cannot go very far with their injuries, but the twins disappear in a could of smoke. Rita feels the heat from outside the cave, and Judith confirms they have arrived at the Sands of Kogorh. Estelle decides to meet Phaeroh, and the group goes with her, affirming it is their job to protect her. Judith informs the group that the desert is divided into three regions: the western foothills, the eastern peaks, and its center, where it is the hottest. She also informs them of a town located between the end of the western foothills and central area. Yuri decides the group should delay in making any decisions until they reach the desert town.

Later in the story, after hearing the brigade of Flynn Scifo has formed a barricade in the cave, Yuri and his allies decide to sneak through it. Once inside, the group notices the brigade standing guard, confirming the barricade is Flynn's doing. To pass, Raven fires an arrow that explodes on impact, startling a nearby steed. While the brigade is distracted, the group moves swiftly to avoid capture. At the aer krene, Yuri allows Rita study it but tells her not to take long. She notes that the aer krene is now inactive, but it was overflowing previously. Suddenly, Repede notices the brigade approaching, and the group manages to move forward to the exit. At the exit, the Schwann Brigade blocks the path, so Raven shouts a military command, causing the brigade to stand at attention and allow Raven and the baffled group members to pass. Despite this, the group mindfully continues toward Nordopolica.

Sands of Kogorh[]

The Sands of Kogorh (コゴール砂漠, Kogooru Sabaku^?, "Kogorh Desert") is the central desert located between Mantaic and Yormgen. It is described as a blazing desert stretching to the end of the horizon, with temperatures dropping to below zero at night. The group first arrives in the Sands of Kogorh in order to save the parents of a boy named Alph and his sister, Layla. Once the group finds a cactus, Yuri suggests using the Sorcerer's Ring, which allows the group to obtain water without harm. After refilling their canteens, the group continues their trek through the desert, waning from the intense heat. When asked how she became familiar with the desert, Judith states she and Ba'ul once lived in a mountain town to the north, so she often visited the desert.

Soon, the group begins to run low on energy; however, Karol notices a nearby spring, which refreshes the group's energy and water supply. Shortly afterward, the group discovers Alph and Layla's parents, collapsed from heat exhaustion. Estelle quickly heals the couple, and the group lends their water-filled canteens to them. Agreeing that the couple should not travel back to town alone, the group continues forward with them. Suddenly, the group hears what appears to be a large bird, so Yuri warns the couple to stay on guard in case a fight ensues, to which they agree. Near the edge of the desert, Judith senses something wrong and warns the group to remain careful.

After hearing the screech again, Estelle realizes it is not Phaeroh, whom they had previously been searching for, and Yuri agrees. Suddenly, a dark void opens before the group, revealing a strange creature. Although Karol suggests the group should retreat, the creature approaches, leaving the group no choice but to fight. After the monster is defeated, it vanishes. Estelle then notices a feather fall from the sky, and shortly afterward, the group begins collapsing due to heat exhaustion. Before Yuri succumbs to the heat, he notices a town in the distance, as well as the dragon that appeared in the Weasand of Cados, and he suspects it to devour him and the group. However, completely unaware to the group, the dragon carries them to the nearby town.

Mt. Temza[]

Mt. Temza (テムザ山, Temuza Yama^?, "Temza Mountain") is a mountainous dungeon located north of Yormgen and the Sands of Kogorh. Judith was born in the city of Temza (テムザ, Temuza^?) on this mountain, but now the city is in ruins due to the Great War that occurred ten years prior to the events of the story. Twenty years prior, in the mountain village of Temza, a Krityan scientist named Hermes (ヘルメス, Herumesu^?) invented a blastia that revolutionized the world, as it could convert aer into energy. One year later, his wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Judith. During her childhood, the girl was brave enough to befriend an Entelexeia by the name of Ba'ul, and the two became inseparable. However, tragedy struck when the Great War broke out, and the village of Temza was caught in the crossfire. This left a nine-year-old Judith in a severe state of shock, as her home and parents were wiped out in the blink of an eye, but Ba'ul saved her before her life could be claimed.

When the group visits Mt. Temza during the story in search of Judith and Ba'ul, more insight into Mt. Temza's tragic history is provided. Discovering large craters, the group comments on the vast damage, with Rita further speculating that such craters were in no way caused by natural disasters, resembling something more like an explosion. Karol wonders if monsters could create such craters, and while Raven confirms this, he also comments that these "monsters" were wiped out. He goes on to explain that the area was a prime battleground during the Great War, leading Estelle to believe that humans and the Entelexeia fought here, quoting the fact that, even though humans were victorious, there were hardly any survivors, and the facts behind the war are shrouded in darkness. She also states that no official government histories give many details about what happened. Rita surmises the Entelexeia did the damage to the mountains, commenting that they possess incredible power.

Yuri claims to have never heard of a battle taking place at Mt. Temza, to which Raven responds by explaining that the Empire has kept a tight hold on information concerning the Great War, leaving many dark secrets hidden from the general public. Rita wonders why monsters would wage war against humans, and Estelle comments that the Empire also did not want the public to know that the monsters were actually the Entelexeia. Karol is impressed by Raven's knowledge of the subject, and Raven responds that a person comes to know these things living long enough, providing some insight into his troubled past. Reminded of the task at hand, the group presses forward to reunite with Judith and Ba'ul, as well as overcome the threat of the Hunting Blades guild again.

Phaeroh's Crag[]

Phaeroh's Crag is a rocky place located in the middle of the Kogorh Desert where the Entelexeia Phaeroh resides. At some point, it was an aer krene that filled the region with life, but it died out due to and overproduction of aer. The land around the crag withered and became desert as a result. The ultimate reason behind this is the power possessed by the "Children of the Full Moon", whose strength stimulates the power of aer too strongly. The group comes to this place in search of Phaeroh but does not find him on their first visit. Later in the story, with Ba'ul's help, the group returns to the crag, where Estelle speaks to Phaeroh.

He explains to her the past of the once abundant green land, now withered and dead because of her kind, these children of the moon. Instead of killing Estelle, Phaeroh opts to heed Judith's plea of finding another way to prevent such disasters from perpetually happening. Again later in the story, Phaeroh is met here once more by the group, though this time he is gravely injured by the superweapon Heracles. He dies and leaves behind an apatheia, and from this, the group reincarnates Phaeroh as the Spirit of Fire known as Efreet.
