Paraiba Tourmaline (パライバ・マリン・ド・レ Paraiba Marin Do Re?, "Paraiba Marine de Rais") is the Empress of the Maximus Empire in Tales of Hearts.
History[]
Paraiba is a childhood friend of Chalcedony Akerman, for whom she has feelings, and is often described as the loneliest person in the world. Twice she attempts to drown herself during the story, within the span of a few minutes, only for Kor Meteor to save her the first time and Gall Gruner to stop her the second. Her deep sadness and inability to control her emotions results in her nearly flooding an entire city.
Just as Gardenia's xeroms invade the empire, Paraiba is overwhelmed with despir, transforming into Pining Veronica (ロンリヴェロニカ Ronriveronika?, "Lonely Veronica). Fortunately, Chalcedony's reciprocation of her feelings toward him breaks her free, shatters her meekness, and allows for her to become a better ruler thereafter.
Appearance and Personality[]
A traditionally feminine woman of royal background, Paraiba dons an oversized imperial cape with chains that invoke the aura of a caged bird, mirroring how trapped she feels, where her name being used in the tensions between the imperial army and the Crystal Knights did not help.
