Blazing Pillar Smash (光翔戦滅陣, Koushou Senmetsujin^?, "Soaring Light Trembling Ruinous Field") is a burst arte exclusive to Flynn Scifo in the PlayStation 3 and Definitive Edition ports of Tales of Vesperia.

Arte Description and History

Blazing Pillar Smash - Bubble Bomber as it appears in Tales of Vesperia.

Flynn summons a rising pillar of light energy out of a glyph in front of him. He then slashes though it, unleashing a wave of energy from the pillar's remnants. As with all of the playable characters' burst artes, this arte's potency increases with Over Limit level, with the base form activating at Level 1, the second at Level 2, and the third at Levels 3 and 4. These levels increase the size and potency of both the pillar and resulting energy wave. All of the playable characters' burst artes also come with four altered artes: Fire though the passive skills "Hell Fire" and "Chain", Earth through "Athenor" and "Crucible", Wind through "Gale" and "Alembic", and Water through "Great Deluge" and "Dispersion". The altered artes consist of the following:

• Fire: Blazing Pillar Smash - Fiery Lion (光翔戦滅陣・獅炎, Koushou Senmetsujin Shien^?, "Soaring Light War Extinction Position: Lion's Blaze") changes the light pillar into a dome of fire centered around Flynn. He then slashes through, unleashing a fiery lion head. Each additional level adds another slash and lion head.
• Earth: Blazing Pillar Smash - Earthquaker (光翔戦滅陣・震斬, Koushou Senmetsujin Shinzan^?, "Soaring Light Trembling Ruinous Field: Quaking Slash") summons a jagged pillar of earth instead. Flynn's slash slices through the pillar, leaving rising earth energy in its wake. Each additional level continues with another slash that increases the potency and duration of the earth energy.
• Wind: Blazing Pillar Smash - Tornado Cutter (光翔戦滅陣・旋迅, Koushou Senmetsujin Senjin^?, "Soaring Light Trembling Ruinous Field: Rapid Whirl") alters the light pillar with a wind pillar. Flynn's following slash then takes him into the air while cutting out a slice of wind. The second level adds a second slice, while the third finishes with a spinning slash centered around Flynn.
• Water: Blazing Pillar Smash - Bubble Bomber (光翔戦滅陣・蒼弾, Koushou Senmetsujin Soudan^?, "Soaring Light Trembling Ruinous Field: Azure Bullets") replaces the light pillar with a swirling tower of water centered around Flynn. He slashes to scatter bubbles around him, which explode when he thrusts his sword into the ground. The range and spread of the bubbles increase with the burst arte level.
