Final Fury (殺劇舞荒剣 / 殺劇舞荒拳 Satsugeki Bukouken?, "Killing Fury Fluttering Violent Blade/Fist"), also localized as Assassin and Fatal Fury, is an arcane and mystic arte used by several characters in the Tales series.
Arte Description and History[]
First appearing in the original PlayStation release of Tales of Destiny, where it was localized as Assassin, it began as one of Stahn Aileron's strongest sacred skills. Stahn throws his shield away and then begins a long series of strikes, ending with a huge blast of flame. It is upgraded to be his second level Blast Caliber in the PlayStation 2 release.
In the PlayStation release of Tales of Phantasia and all those derived from it, Cress Albane learns to use Final Fury when he levels up to over level 100 while he is equipped with the S&D weapon. To use the entire arte, the player has to press these buttons in order while the attack is occurring: , , ↑ + , ↓ + , ↑ + , , , and ↓ + . The requirement is removed in the iOS version due to the lack of buttons. It should be noted that Final Fury is classified as a base arte in this game, despite its requirements. The entire arte is a reference to Stahn, as the S&D is his sword and requires defeating Lilith Aileron, his sister, to obtain. In the Game Boy Advance version of the game, this arte doesn't appear but instead learns Tiger Combo Blast, which has a similar classification to Final Fury as a Deadly Skill. In Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, Final Fury becomes one of his mystic artes and doesn't need the S&D weapon nor the input command to use the entire arte as it is done automatically, but if the same input command seen above is used, Cress will unleash a powerful fiery wave at the end, increasing the damage output and the number of hits.
In Tales of Eternia, where it is localized as Fatal Fury, Farah Oersted debuts a fist variant as one of her power artes. She performs a flurry of relentless attacks that eventually take both Farah and the enemies caught in the barrage upward into the air before it ends. It is the first time it is used without a reference to Stahn.
In Tales of the Abyss, Final Fury is a mystic arte used by Anise Tatlin. It can be performed by using an arcane strike arte and holding down the Arte button while in Over Limit mode. Anise must have the AD Skill Special in order to use it. Anise's doll, Tokunaga, punches the opponent multiple times and eventually leaps into the air, where it then launches a blast of energy at them. She has two quotes for this arte: one normal and one alternative that will be used if Luke fon Fabre and Jade Curtiss are not in the battle and Ion is not with the party. If the player holds down the Arte button button throughout the arte in later playthroughs, it can be extended into Dying Moon. In many Crossover Titles, Dying Moon is used to identify Anise's mystic arte, although the arte itself is a combination of these two artes.
In Tales of Hearts, the move is a mystic arte that can be used by Kohaku Hearts. Kohaku kicks and smashes the enemies with her rod a dozen times or so, then kicks them down to the ground, ending with a spin and smash kick. In Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria, the Dark Turtlez's version, written as Final Furyz Blade (殺劇吹こう剣 Satsugeki Bukouken?, "Killing Fury Blowing Blade"), is a direct parody of Kohaku's version, using different types of fish instead of cherry blossoms, as they share the same Japanese voice actor. Dark Turtlez slashes his enemy multiple times with his twin fish swords as different drawings of fish appear on the screen. He then knocks the enemy away and throws his twin fish swords into the air, twirls around, and catches one of them, using it like a blowgun to shoot a ball of water at his enemy, while the second fish sword humorously falls and pierces the top of his head.
In Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2, the move is a mystic arte that can be executed by Jude Mathis while in Over Limit mode and activated by using Savage Roar while holding the Attack button. He begins the arte with moving behind the opponent and performs a spinning kick before leaping toward the opponent and performing a flurry of strikes. He then moves to the enemy's front and performs another flurry of strikes before finishing with a charged right punch. It is also a shared mystic arte between Stahn and Cress in their cameo battle, as they each use their individual versions of the arte, first Stahn, then Cress, before ending with simultaneous slashes of fire, sending the enemy upward before performing a flaming cross-slash with the camera changing depending on who activated it. Despite being an individual mystic arte for either fighter, it requires both to be active, similar to a linked arte.
In Tales of Berseria, Jude performs the arte differently. He starts by spinning and kicking the opponent in the head before performing a flurry of strikes. He then performs a spinning kick before moving behind the enemy and spinning, damaging the enemy, then lands a powerful left cross. In Tales of Crestoria, Jude's Final Fury borrows the quote from Tales of Xillia and the execution from Tales of Berseria.
In Tales of the Rays, this arte becomes a reward mirrage arte for Stahn and Farah. Farah's version of Final Fury is that she first initiates with a kick in the air, followed by punches similar to Sonic Fist. She then follows with Twin Palm Strike and finishes with a blow similar to Rising Dragon Strike. In Stahn's version, he begins with a series combo of his own artes and finishes with a huge burst of flame. Stahn's Final Fury's element retains its original, Fire, while Farah's Final Fury's element is Wind. Kagura from the Gintama series has a parody of Final Fury called Satsugeki Bukkorogasuken. Mirrist Regal has access to Satsugeki Bukouken as a regular strike arte. He starts by performing a right hook, a left uppercut, and barrage of right punches before a jumping right uppercut. He then spins mid-air before punching the ground with his right fist, before performing a powerful, jumping, left uppercut, leaving behind a wave of pure energy that sends the enemy caught in it to be launched upward.
In the collaboration event with Star Ocean: Anamnesis, this is Cress's Rush Combo attack. The area turns into a plain of green grass as Cress slashes the enemy three times before launching them upward with his sword. He then jumps up after them and thrusts right through. Cress then turns around mid-air to target the enemy as he swings his sword downward, shooting a projectile of light that explodes upon contact with the enemy. This attack also reduces AP consumption of all allies by forty percent.
In Tales of Asteria, a Hello Kitty version of Jude, paired with Milla Maxwell, performs a parodied version called Apple Bukooken (あっぷるぶこーけん?).
In both language files of Tales of Symphonia, there are unused voice clips of the fist variant used by Colette Brunel and Farah, while in the Japanese files of Tales of Graces, there is a voice clip of Richard using the sword variant. None of them have access to it in the final versions of these games.
