Fortune's Arc as it appears in Tales of the Abyss.
Fortune's Arc (フォーチュン・アーク Foochun Aaku?, "Fortune Arc") is a mystic arte in Tales of the Abyss. To date, the only playable character to use the mystic arte is Tear Grants.
Arte Description and History
In Tales of the Abyss, Fortune's Arc can only be used by Tear. The move can be activated only after all six Fonic Hymns have achieved 50 or more uses, as well as if the game has been completed and saved at least once. If these conditions are met, Fortune's Arc can be activated by using Judgment while in Over Limit. The move features Tear drawing up in an orb of light and chanting the incantation before damaging all enemies on the field. Fortune's Arc can not be avoided and can only be used once per battle. Fortune's Arc is also usable by Gelda Nebilim in the game. Nebilim has access to this mystic arte on all difficulties, using it more often on higher difficulty ranks. One thing notable about Nebilim's Fortune's Arc is that it can reduce the HP of all allies to 1 HP, but cannot kill them. However, it is entirely unavoidable.
Exclusive to the North American PlayStation 2 release of Tales of the Abyss and then integrated into the Nintendo 3DS release, an extension is available to Fortune's Arc, which can be executed by holding down the "X" button during the original mystic arte. This nameless extension, only shown with a "mystic arte" label, features Tear chanting an additional incantation phrase and releasing waves of energy while surrounded by a fonic glyph, damaging all opponents on the field. Tear's cut-in image for Innocent Shine is used during this extension phase. The extension is similar in style to Sacred Penance, used by Philia Felice in the same game. Upon activating this extension, all allies are revived and fully healed, as well as receive additional stat boosts during the battle. The move will also cure any status effects that any ally may have.
