Grade is a feature of the Tales series. It is most associated with the Grade shop, where bonuses that enhance the next playthrough can be bought. Grade is most often awarded for performing well in battle, and it can be taken away for performing poorly.

Contents

[edit] Tales of Phantasia

Grade was only included in the PSP Full Voice Edition. It can be won and lost from battle, spent at the Grade Shop upon starting a New Game Plus.

[edit] Tales of Destiny 2

Grade, as well as the Grade Shop, was first introduced in this game. On Easy difficulty, the player is unable to earn Grade; each successive difficulty presents the opportunity to earn more. Normal has a maximum Grade per battle of 4; the next difficulty will increase that amount by 2. It is also possible to lose Grade for performing poorly, though only a maximum of 2 per battle.

In boss battles, this changes. The maximum Grade able to be earned is ten times the normal amount; subsequently, is is also possible to lose at most 10 Grade.

The following actions will increase Grade earned in order of increasing amounts:

  • Completing a combo

  • Guarding enemy attacks
  • Using Action Enchants
  • Magic Guarding enemy spells
  • Critical Guarding enemy attacks

  • End battle with ally unconscious[1]

[edit] Tales of Symphonia

Grade functions in a similar manner as to Destiny 2. It can be won and lost from battle depending on performance. It can also be used to buy customization materials and EX Gems from various vendors, a handy way of checking how much Grade the party has. Completing the game provides a 1000 Grade bonus.

The following actions will increase Grade earned:

  • Perform a Unison Attack
  • Finish the battle in 15 seconds
