[edit] Description
Grune is a woman shrouded in mystery. Never swayed by circumstances, the crystal eren has an amazing ability to bring a sense of peace and well-being to all those around her. She has lost her memory, recalling only her own name, but she still keeps in high spirits and has a smile on her face at all times. Never distraught, never emotional, she may be the most fearless member of the group. She also has a strange ability to communicate with the Summon Spirits.
She has been termed both the bravest and the most clueless member of the party and appears to be quite comfortable carrying out whatever odd request Norma might have of her, all the while leaving unrequited the rather blatant crush harboured for her by Moses Sandor, of which she is most likely unaware at first and with which she is unconcerned at the end of the game.
Once Grune has recovered her memory in her character quest, she is revealed to have an important connection to Schwartz, though this is not fully explained until the very end, at which point it is revealed then that she is the "Weaver of Time", the goddess who commands time to progress forward, in opposition to Schwartz, who ends it. Her voice and disposition also undergo a noteworthy alteration -- her speech changing from expressions of obliviousness spoken in a high-pitched, empty monotone to a deeper, more authoritative tone befitting one of her rank. It is also interesting to note that she speaks quite condescendingly toward her enemies, one of her lines being "how could I be stopped by the likes of you?" when interrupted in her casting by an enemy attack.
As Grune and Schwartz cannot exist independently of one another, Grune fades away at the end of her character quest, awakening the Summon Spirits Celsius, Efreet, Shadow, Gnome, Volt and Rem with the last of her power, though due to the lack of a wind element and the merger of water and light into the element called 'sea', the Summon Spirits Sylph and Undine are missing from her roster.
Her "Norma Nickname" is "G-Girl".
[edit] In Battle
Unlike the other Crystal Erens, who can all heal as well as grant some sort of positive or negative buff, Grune is just a loose cannon with way too much power. She learns the widest array of Sea and Curse spells in the game and wields them with frightening effectiveness, as she has the second-highest Intelligence in the game. Unfortunately, what she has in power she lacks in versatility: Grune starts the game with only one spell and will not learn another for about six levels, and she is the only Crystal Eren who does not end the game with at least one spell of every element (she lacks Thunder and Earth magic completely).
[edit] Trivia
Grune's name is derived from 'grüne' the feminine variant of 'grün', a German word meaning 'green'. This contrasts interestingly with the name Schwartz, which bears a great deal of resemblance to 'schwarz', the German word for 'black'. Both colors are reflective of each respective character's attire.
