Crimson Devastation (緋焔滅焦陣, Hien Messhoujin^?, "Bloody Flame Destroy Burn Position"^[1]) is a powerful mystic arte exclusive to Presea Combatir from Tales of Symphonia.

Arte Description and History

In the PlayStation 2 version of Tales of Symphonia, this attack is known to have ridiculous requirements. Presea must be in critical health, which is indicated by a red HP marker, and all other party members must be knocked out. When Over Limit mode is achieved given these conditions, she must activate the effect of her EX-Skill Limit Over, a combined effect from the EX-Skills Might Charge and Appeal, while using Might Charge itself. Limit Over has a significantly low chance of success, decreasing the chances of activating this mystic arte successfully while Over Limit is still active. Furthermore, Over Limit relies on a hidden tension gauge in this game, making it difficult to determine and control when it will activate. However, this mystic arte is quite easily the strongest move in the whole game.

Upon its successful activation, Presea slams her axe against the ground where the enemy stands and causes an explosion similar to Reppa Enshougeki, but instead follows it up with a leap into the air. Charging her axe with power, she flips back down toward the ground and slams her weapon onto the target again, causing them to be consumed in a second, longer-lasting explosion. Once finished, she poses with her left hand on her chest.

In Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World and other appearances, the move has become simply another mystic arte, receiving a significant downgrade in appearance and damage output. However, this is balanced by making it as easy to activate as other characters' mystic artes.
