Journey of Regeneration
From Aselia, the Tales wiki
- Because there are no evidence of these events happening every time, the concept for the Journeys of Regeneration is told from Colette Brunel’s own Journey of Regeneration.
The Journey of Regeneration is a pilgrimage the Chosen One takes in the game Tales of Symphonia in order to regenerate the deceasing world. When the Chosen has received the oracle in the Day of Prophesy, he or she will go on the Journey of Regeneration to unlock the five Seals all around the world, the last Seal being in the Tower of Salvation, where the Chosen will become a true angel. The Journey of Regeneration takes about one third of the game.

[edit] Becoming an angel
In the game, the party believes for a long time that as Colette, Sylvarant’s Chosen of Regeneration releases the seals, the world is closer to salvation and that she becomes an angel. However, it is later revealed that for each seal Colette releases, she not only gets angelic powers, such as wings and Angel Skills for battles, but also loses traits that make her human. It seems like this is because of the Cruxis Crystal that is placed on the Chosen in the Day of Prophesy. Although it looks like it has a Key Crest on it, it may just be a fake of some sorts.
[edit] First Seal
When releasing the first Seal, which in the game is the Seal of Fire in the Triet Ruins, Colette receives the wings, as well as the angel skill Angel Feathers. On the other hand, she also loses the need to eat, as well as the ability to taste.
[edit] Second Seal
When releasing the second Seal, which in the game is be either the Seal of Water in Thoda Geyser or the Seal of Wind in the Balacruf Mausoleum, Colette does not gain any angel skills, but loses the need and ability to sleep.
[edit] Third Seal
When releasing the third Seal, which in the game can be either the Seal of Wind in the Balacruf Mausoleum or the Seal of Water in Thoda Geyser, Colette gains the angel skill Holy Song, but will not be able to physically feel anything. In the game, it was after releasing the third Seal that Lloyd realizes that something is wrong with Colette, and gets her to tell him what is going on with her.
[edit] Fourth Seal
When releasing the fourth Seal, which in the game is the Seal of Light in the Tower of Mana, Colette gets the angel skill Sacrifice, but will not be able to speak anymore. It is at this point in the game that Lloyd will tell the others what is wrong with Colette.
[edit] Final Seal
The fifth and last Seal is at the Tower of Salvation, where the Chosen will sacrifice his or her last remnants that makes him or her human; the heart and the memories. By doing this only by his or her free will, the Chosen will be sacrificed, and the body will be used to try to revive the Goddess Martel, and the declining world will be regenerated. This, however, is not known by common people, and even those who know merely know that by going on the Journey of Regeneration means that the Chosen One never will return home again. In the game, Colette learns the angel skill Judgment. However, in the game, Colette seems like the very first Chosen to still be alive after starting the Journey of Regeneration. However, throughout the time she was without any soul, her eyes were different from normal; in the game, they became red, while in the manga and anime, they became darker and cloudy.
[edit] Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
In the sequel to the game, the Journey of Regeneration (now called journey of world regeneration) is the reference to the journey the Chosen and her companions went on in the original, and how they used their powers to reunite the worlds and plant up a new World Tree. However, all the details about the Journey of Regeneration are not known for common people, like the truth about Mithos the Hero and the Kharlan War. Not even the new protagonists of the game, Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi, get to know about it.
