Mars Udole is a minor antagonist in Tales of Phantasia. He is never directly confronted by the party in battle and is killed shortly after the beginning of the game.

At the commencement of Tales of Phantasia, Mars is the commander of the Order of Knights in Black Armour who attack and destroy the village of Toltus early in the game, leaving Cress Albane and Chester Burklight the only surviving inhabitants of the town. His goal was to obtain the enchanted pendant owned by Cress Albane that would release the seal imprisoning the sorcerer Dhaos, by whom he was promised great power in exchange for his release and by whose hand he is slain shortly thereafter.

Due to Cress's absence at the time of the attack, Mars forced his uncle to betray him shortly after his arrival in Euclid seeking shelter after finding his hometown destroyed. With Cress's pendant in hand, Mars travelled to the Mausoleum where sorcerer Dhaos was imprisoned and used the pendant to free him with intent to exploit his power and conquer the world. However, Dhaos, having no reason to feel any gratitude nor any restraint, killed him with a powerful water-based spell.

Mars was once a happily married man who rose to prominence among the Knights in Black Armour of Euclid, though he appears to have been changed by the death of his wife.
