ToP iOS Maxwell

Maxwell as it appears in Tales of Phantasia (iOS).

Maxwell (マクスウェル Makusuueru?) and Summon: Birth (降霊召符・元 Koureishoufu: Moto?, "Spirit Summoning Seal: Source") are artes that summon the Spirit Maxwell.

Arte Description and History[]

The arte Maxwell first appears in Tales of Phantasia under the command of Claus F. Lester. When summoned, Maxwell appears and creates numerous clones surrounded by force field. The clones then flies at the direction of the enemy, causing damage by hitting them. The arte Maxwell takes drastic changes from the original in later series. Instead of creating clones, Maxwell usually takes the form of meteors raining down on the enemies. At first, the meteors bounced around the screen, but in later games, they merely fall upon the enemy, similar to the Meteor Storm spell, in which he is a known user of this spell in games he appears in.

Maxwell's Tales of Eternia summon is notable for having a long list of extensions, named the Maxwell Extensions by fans. In Tales of Symphonia, Summon: Birth will increase the party's magical defense as well. In Tales of Xillia 2, this arte becomes a martial arcane arte that summons Maxwell to release orbs of the four elements, similar to the Elemental Shot arte. It is obtained during the game's Bonus Chapter and is required to make the elemental golems fought during that chapter vulnerable. It is also required to active the Meteor Storm mystic arte. Maxwell is also the name of a skill in Tales of Zestiria that enables a chance to reduce Void-elemental damage.
