Muzét (ミュゼ Myuze?, "Musee") is an ally and antagonist in Tales of Xillia, as well as a party member in Tales of Xillia 2. She is a Great Spirit with power over dimensions.

History[]

Maxwell created Muzét when the Elympions managed to create a hole in the schism leading to Rieze Maxia and ordered her to kill Elympions who knew about the schism. He then assigned her to kill anyone who knew about the barrier as a means of protecting Rieze Maxia and the spirits residing within it. Ever since, she has taken residence in Elympios.

Five years prior to the events of Tales of Xillia, Muzét saved an elderly woman "by a whim" during a "terrible accident", but was unable to save her daughter. Some time after the event, the woman asked Muzét to read books to her, as she was blind and accustomed to her daughter reading to her. Muzét agreed, and since then, has visited the woman and read to her. Five years later, after Ivar unknowingly activated the Lance of Kresnik, Gilandor Yul Svent used it to create a hole in the schism, from which Elympion airships and Muzét herself appeared.

At first, Muzét is caring and gentle to the party, up until Milla Maxwell's sacrifice. After the Exodus threat is neutralized, she reveals her true colors and turns on the group, saying that those who know about the schism must die. However, when confronted if that is what needs to happen, Maxwell does not respond. In her desperation to have a guide, she resolves to follow Gaius, who gives her a purpose. The two are eventually defeated, resulting in Milla becoming the new Maxwell, but not before Milla offers the devastated Muzét her hand.

Appearance and Personality[]

Muzet Status (ToX2)

Muzét has long, blue-green hair, yellow-green eyes, and pointy ears fading to jagged-ice-blue on the tips. She possesses intricate light-blue wings, which grant her the ability to float. Neither of her attires are similar to that of normal human's clothing, being made up of different pieces.

In Tales of Xillia, both of her arms are covered in cornflower-blue sleeves attached to beige gloves, and beige points on each other shoulders, both outlined by ziggurat. These pieces go up to her neck, but reveal her collarbone. Her waist and the middle of her torso is covered by a westar "leotard". Layered on top of that, covering the majority of her breasts are a long piece of jagged ice color, with cornflower color decorations, on each side, acting as a dress, as well as a single white piece in the middle, shaped similarly to a necktie. To top it off, her feet are covered by sinbad blue "boots".

Muzét heavily depends on others' guidance; without it, she is lost and indecisive, living on the edge of despair. When Muzét initially follows Jude Mathis, she acts rather harmless and impersonal, although she relies on him. After Milla's death, Muzét drastically changes; she kills the elders of Nia Khera and attempts to kill several members of the group for the sake of her mission of "protecting Rieze Maxia".

In Tales of Xillia 2, Muzét's attire is heavily altered. Her upper body is covered by a white cropped "breastplate/vest" that goes down the hips. Attached to that is a riptide piece that covers the outer side of each leg, up to the waist, and stopping below the lower back, and boots covering her feet. Attached to that is a single white piece that vertically covers her lower body. On each of her arms are white forearm guards each adorned with transparent rings, green on the bicep, blue of the forearm, red on the wrist. To top it off, she also has a single east bay piece layered over, taking the appearance of a "cape" in the back, and two mantles in the front. In addition, her wings are altered, taking a more round appearance.

White she reverts back to the personality she originally portrayed. The only difference is that she is more independent, although she is shown to be child-minded and indecisive, a side that only Ludger Will Kresnik knows after being forced to wear the Spirit Chat Yakkety Strap 2000.

Fighting Style[]

Before being fought as a boss, Muzét has her own summon arte, used by Jude. Throughout the story, Muzét is shown to be terrifyingly adept at Gravity Well, using it multiple times at once to destroy an entire fleet.

Wielding one of the most unique fighting styles in the Tales series, Muzét fights with her hair in battle. Her equipped weapons are hairpins, but in actual combat, she sharpens her hair into sharp points, like spears, or whips it in wide swings to strike her enemies. Some of her artes even finish with blasts of energy or laying explosive traps to keep the enemy off balance. As a spirit like Milla, she is capable of casting advanced spirit artes of each element. She also uses the mystic arte, Event Horizon. At the Temporal Crossroads, she is capable of using linked artes with Gaius, and she can use the skill "Angel's Cry" to revive Gaius once.

In Tales of Xillia 2, Muzét's arteset is expanded upon, allowing her to cast novice- and intermediate-level spirit artes. She can also cast them in mid-air, in addition to healing and resurrecting fallen allies.

Muzét's characteristic skill is Emergency Warp (リーヴアサルト Riivuasaruto?, "Leave Assault"), in which she instantly warps during a front-step or back-step after being attacked by an enemy. She is invincible during the warping animation, allowing her to dodge any other attacks that might come her way. As a member of the party, Muzét can now link with other allies to perform more linked artes, expanding her arteset greatly. Through this, she can also perform the linked mystic arte, Malign Gravity, with Ludger Will Kresnik. Her partner characteristic skill is Support Warp (トラクタームーヴ Torakutaamuuvu?, "Tractor Move"). If Muzét is the secondary partner, she warps the linked ally toward the enemy during a front-step or further away during a back-step, which makes her an excellent partner for hit-and-run tactics. In addition, this partner skill allows you to safely phase through monsters, making it valuable in battles with high enemy volume. Despite her various strong points, Muzét suffers from having the lowest defense and is even more fragile than Rowen and Elize when it comes to taking hits.

In some instances when she is fought as an enemy, she also have access to the Four Great Spirits to assist her in battle and the Elemental Shot arte.

Other Appearances[]

Tales of Crestoria[]

In Tales of Crestoria, Muzét appears as a spirit residing in a forest near Palumi Village, said to grant any wish. She is visited by Luke fon Fabre and Alisha Diphda, who wish to speak with the recently massacred citizens of Southvein. Muzét obliges, and the townsfolk are "resurrected", but seemingly under a feral rage. Before they can harm another village, Luke apologizes to the Southveiners for his involvement in the massacre.

  • Muzét was set to appear as a playable character in Tales of Xillia, along with Gaius, but due to time constraints, the idea was discarded. Ultimately, she becomes a party member in the game's direct sequel, Tales of Xillia 2.
  • In both language files of Tales of Xillia, there exists three artes that Muzét does not have access to in the final version of the game. These artes are called "Chaos Throw" (シーズフリング?, "Seize Fling"), "Sharpened Flip" (エザリィフリップ?), and "Elemental Law" (エレメンタルロウ?).
