Negative Gate (TotA)

Negative Gate as it appears in Tales of the Abyss.

Negative Gate (ネガティブゲイト Negatibugeito?) is a recurring arte in the Tales series that is frequently of the Dark element.

Arte Description and History

In most of its appearances, the spell creates a sphere of dark energy that damages enemies. In Tales of Destiny 2, it is possible for Judas and Harold Berselius to extend the spell to Evil Sphere. In Tales of the Abyss, if it is used in a fully-charged Fire or Light FOF Circle, it becomes Crimson Riot. In Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, Negative Gate is an arte available to Richter Abend, along with monsters that can learn it from the "Shadow's Walk" item. Negative Gate can also be used by Dark-elemental monsters during the first movement Unison Attack.

In Tales of Hearts, if Kunzite is using this spell for a combination arte with Ines Lorenzen's Bulle Blade, they will use Noire Perle instead. If he uses it with Beryl Benito's Aqua Geyser, Absolute will be used, and if used with Beryl's Ground Dasher, Gravity. In Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2 the move manifests as a black cloud emerging from a violet portal opening under the enemy, from which tendrils of darkness also emerge and wave around, damaging nearby opponents, an appearance which has been made its own arte in Tales of Berseria known as Void Lagoon.
