ToP iOS Resurrection

Resurrection as it appears in Tales of Phantasia (iOS).

This page refers to the revival spell known as "Raise Dead" in Japanese media. For the spell known in the Japanese media as "Resurrection", see Revitalize.

Resurrection (レイズデッド Reizudeddo?, "Raise Dead") is a classic healing and recovery spell in the Tales series. It appears in nearly all of the games, lending to its importance throughout the series. Tales of Rebirth and Tales of Zestiria are the only Mothership Titles in the series thus far not to feature the move.

Arte Description and History

Resurrection (ToS)

Resurrection as it appears in Tales of Symphonia.

This spell revives an ally that has been knocked out, performing a similar effect as a "Life Bottle". It is usually learned by the healer of the group before the middle of a game's first playthrough. As long as the caster has TP, they can revive characters without using items, reducing the Grade penalty from using items.

Resurrection first appears in Tales of Phantasia. When the spell is cast, an angel descends to revive the fallen ally. In Tales of Eternia, Resurrection is obtained after obtaining Sekundes if Undine has leveled past level 20. The spell can be used by either Meredy or Keele Zeibel, depending on who is using Undine's Craymel Cage. Upon casting the spell, the face of Mint Adenade appears in the background as part of the spell's animation, while a sprite of her appears over the target.

In Tales of Symphonia, Resurrection is a powerful arte left by the healer Boltzman. Sophia in Hima requests that Raine Sage learn the arte in order to heal Pietro, a victim of the ranches, before she will help them. The party finds the book in the Tower of Mana, but Raine knows that she requires the help of a unicorn. At Lake Umacy, the party obtains the "Unicorn Horn" with a unicorn's blessing due to the purity of their intentions, and Raine uses Resurrection and the Unicorn Horn's power to restore Pietro, and later Clara.

In Tales of the Abyss, if Tear Grants uses the spell within a complete Water or Dark FOF Circle, it changes to Regenerate. However, this does not occur with Anise Tatlin, who also has the same spell granted through the "Time Traveling Girl" accessory, which depicts the only player character in Tales of Destiny 2 capable of casting the spell. Resurrection is one of the few support spells to leave a FOF Circle when cast, leaving a full Light field.

In Tales of Vesperia, if Estelle is equipped with the skills "Hell Fire", "Athenor", "Gale", and "Great Deluge", she will use the altered arte Revive. If she is equipped with the skills "Dispersion" and "Alembic", she will use Regenerate. In the PlayStation 3 port of the game, the arte is misspelled as (レイズデット Reizudetto?) when used by the Spiral Draco - Center Head, though the effect is the same. In Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, the spell is of the Light element, thus influencing the Elemental Grid when used.

In Tales of Graces, Cheria Barnes can use Resurrection as a normal healing spell in addition to using it to revive fallen allies. In earlier versions, the spell can only be cast on a character who has fallen in battle, and if they somehow are revived prior to the animation, it restores very little HP. Cheria's version also allows her to both heal and restore life to a group of allies, as opposed to a single ally.
