Richea Spodune (リチア・スポデューン, Richia Supodyuun^?) is one of the main characters in Tales of Hearts, and joins the party as an unplayable protagonist.

History

Shing Meteoryte first meets Richea when he enters Amber Hearts's heart with the help of his Soma. When he reaches the end of Amber's Spir Maze, Shing meets Richea. Richea seems frightened of Shing, and almost immediately, Amber's Spirune shatters, and Richea disappears. Once Amber's Spirune is whole again, Richea is able to speak through Amber, in essence possessing her. However, Amber and Richea have a good relationship, and are close friends. After Richea is restored to her own body, she continues to travel with the party. At first, Shing, Jadeite Hearts, and Beryl Benito are reluctant to help her in her feud with Kreed Grafyte. Jadeite, in particular, seems to resent Richea for "using" his sister. His opinion of her seems to improve, however, once she saves him from drowning, and in the end the party agrees to help Richea defeat Kreed.

Richea is the "sleeping princess" worshiped by the Church of Velleia. However, she is not a goddess. Rather, she is one of the few surviving members of the Quart (結晶人 / クォート, Kuooto^?), an ancient race that resided on the white moon, Quartzia. 1,000 years prior to the events of the story, Quartzia was at war. Wanting to put an end to all war, Kreed created the weapon Gardenia, the black moon, which would calcify all impure Spirune, turning the individual to stone.

Gardenia worked too well, calcifying everyone on the planet, save the ones on Gardenia at the time: Kreed, Richea, and Richea's sister, Flora Spodune. Gardenia was out of control and would have destroyed Celland as well, but Flora sealed off its power with herself. Kreed was distraught by this, and he wanted to unseal Flora, indifferent that it would destroy Celland. To prevent this, Richea sealed both Kreed and herself away as well, however, Kreed's interference caused their minds to be separated from their Spirune. For the ensuing 1,000 years, Richea and Kreed fought each other through a series of human vessels. Richea eventually came to inhabit the bodies of the women of the Hearts family, eventually finding herself sharing the body of Amber's grandmother, then Amber's mother, Iola Hearts, and finally Amber herself. Richea was good friends with Iola, just as she is now with Amber.

Appearance and Personality

Richea is a woman with emerald green hair and a similar appearance to that of the sleeping princess of the fairy tales of the world. She appears fickle, but she has a strong will, refusing to change her mind once she comes to a decision.

Relationships

Amber Hearts - Richea and Amber share an understandably close bond. Richea has been with Amber her whole life, and the two trust each other without question. Amber does whatever it takes to protect Richea, even agreeing to shatter her own Spirune to prevent Kreed from getting to Richea.

Kunzite - Kunzite is Richea's personal guardian knight. Richea is shown to be a kind and polite master to Kunzite, and through this she has gained an unwavering loyalty from Kunzite that goes far beyond his programming. Kunzite is very protective of Richea and will fight anyone who would seek to do her harm. Around Richea, Kunzite has a softer side, contrasting with his usual mechanical coldness.

Trivia

• Richea's last name is a reference to the mineral spodumene. Her first name can be transcribed alternatively as Lithia, relating to lithium, which is present in spodumene.
