[edit] Appearances

Shadow is the Summon Spirit of Darkness. He has no set form, either taking the appearance of near-figureless darkness or a warrior clad in dark, imposing armor.

[edit] Tales of Phantasia

Shadow appears as a ghost-like spirit. Found in the Cave of Shadows, he is the Dark Spirit, only agreeing to help the party because dark creatures, his friends, have been brainwashed into helping Dhaos.

Shadow requires the Amethyst Ring to forge a pact, granting Klarth F. Lester with the power to summon him in battle.

[edit] Tales of Destiny

A consumable item called "Shadow" is dummied out of the game, though a picture of it exists. Given the nature of similar consumable items, particularly the Luna item, it can be inferred that it was intended to summon Shadow.

[edit] Tales of Eternia

Shadow in Tales of Eternia

Shadow represents one of the Greater Craymels and is the Governing Craymel of Celestia with dominion over Gnome, Volt, and Celsius. The Dark Craymel governs the use of all dark element spells. Shadow first appears when the party finished acquiring the Primary Craymels under his control, congratulating them and granting the party the Excalibur sword. A proud being, he is found in the Shadow Cave, and tests the party's will. Finding them acceptable, he joins them.

Shadow himself can be summoned through the arte "Shadow".

[edit] Tales of Destiny 2

Shadow is a cameo appearance in the Hi Ougi arte Luna Shade (ルナシェイド Runasheido?).

[edit] Tales of Symphonia

Shadow, the Envoy from the Dark Abyss, appears as a vaguely humanoid shape made of a dark substance (presumably shadow itself) and must be found and rejoined. He is one of the Tethe'allan Summon Spirits and does not use full sentences when speaking. Found south of the Fooji Mountains in the Temple of Darkness, he is the Summon Spirit of Darkness. He can be summoned through the arte Summon: Darkness (降霊召符・闇 Koureishoufu: Yami?),

[edit] Tales of Legendia

Shadow in Tales of Legendia

Shadow appears as a glowing ball of light only Grune can see, joining her after the party defeats the Dark Norma Beatty. He then rests in Grune's urn as a seed, at which point Grune plants it in the Village of the Ferines.

At the end of the game, Shadow is born from this seed as one of the Summon Spirits bequeathed onto the world. Given his nature in other games, he probably represents the Curse element, which consists of spells associated with the Darkness element in other games.

[edit] Tales of the Abyss

Shadow is the aggregate sentience of the First Fonon, the Fonon of Darkness. His name used to represent the sixth and seventh months, Shadow Decan and Shadow Redecan.

[edit] Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon

Shadow is the Spirit of Dark and one of the twelve Spirits which must be fought during the Ordeal of Spirits. He appears on the last level of the Cave of Darkness in AC.4354 and is the boss of that dungeon. Once defeated, he teaches Mel and Dio about balance.[1]

[edit] Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage

Fulein F. Lester can summon Shadow as a unit.

[edit] Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

Though Shadow doesn't appear in the game, his home in the Temple of Darkness is where the Centurion of Darkness's, Tenebrae's, core is found. In reference to his position as the Summon Spirit of Darkness, his name is attached to monster grimoires which teach darkness elemental artes: Shadow's Language, which teaches Scare Shot and Shadow's Walk, which teaches Negative Gate.[2]
