Double Spiral Attack (ToE)

Double Spiral Attack as it appears in Tales of Eternia.

Soaring Light Spear (閃空翔裂破 Senkuu Shoureppa?, "Flash Sky Soar Fissure Destruction"[1]), alternatively Victory Light Spear (閃空衝裂破 Senkuu Shoureppa?, "Flash Sky Rush Fissure Destruction"), is an upgraded version of the Light Spear arte.

Arte Description and History

Soaring Light Spear (TotA)

Soaring Light Spear as it appears in Tales of the Abyss.

This arte is executed initially the same way as a typical Light Spear, in which the character spirals into the air surrounded by a trail of light, but instead finishing with a powerful horizontal slash while airborne, before falling back to the ground. This is a very powerful attack, but it is difficult to combo with since the final slash will miss the target if it is not launched into the air with the character during the initial spiral jump.

Although they share the same pronunciation, both variations of this attack are defined by different kanji characters that are used in their Japanese names, 閃空衝裂破 and 閃空翔裂破, in which the third character is either "rush" ( shou?) and "soar" ( shou?). Due to this difference in naming, characters with the "rush" version have Victory Light Spear, while characters with "soar" have Soaring Light Spear. Both variations appeared within the same localized game once, in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, and their English names have followed the established differences.
