The term spirit clime is used to refer to the balance of spirit power in the world of Rieze Maxia during the events of Tales of Xillia. When this power is out of balance, nature can be polarized in one direction, which results in unusual spirit climes that render atypical atmospheric conditions.
Description
A good majority of the world has a stable spirit clime, though there are a handful of regions enveloped in drastic climates that, despite being vaguely unnatural, are considered to be normal. Some geographers, however, speculate that the world was once more balanced with a single, more unified spirit clime that has since become warped by some unknown power. In truth, spirit climes are the result of Maxwell engulfing Rieze Maxia in the schism, resulting in abnormal effects in weather throughout the land. One example of these abnormalities is Fennmont's night-clime, which casts perpetual nightfall over the city, fading out in the surrounding areas, such as Barnauer Highroad. As a result, the city is lit through the use of spirit artes.
Another unusual spirit clime is the Lakutam sunset-clime, which affects Lakutam Seahaven and Lakutam Highroad, painting the areas in perpetual sunset. The Kijara Seafalls are enveloped in a water-clime that results in an overt aquatic environment. There are also areas known as liminal regions, where multiple spirit climes collide, affecting the landscape and atmosphere in devastating ways. A few examples of liminal regions include Bermia Gorge, which is plagued by a severe wind-clime, and Fezebel Marsh, a wetland that produces a heavy marsh flow. Although the Ragnome season typically weakens the marsh flow enough to allow crossing, changes in spirit climes have resulted in a steady flow, making the area unpredictable and dangerous.
At the end of the story, the protagonists succeed in dispelling the schism and uniting Rieze Maxia with Elympios. This results in the disappearance of drastic spirit climes, as evident in Tales of Xillia 2, where they cease to exist and the affected areas have resumed normality in regard to climate.
