Starry Heavens is the opening theme song for Tales of Symphonia's anime sequence opening, and is sung by Day After Tomorrow. Although it may be coinsidental, some of the song lyrics may be in referrence to Lloyd and Kratos' relationship, as they often used to be outside looking at the starry skies when Lloyd was little, and that that is the only memory Lloyd remembers about his family is looking at the skies at night. Throughout the song, it may also be hinted about Kratos watching over Lloyd, who is trying to make his ideal dreams come true, and how they may recindle their relationship as family if they just work hard enough.

The opening sequence first shows the back of Yggdrasill with his wings, before the song begins and shows Lloyd's feet running. It then shows him running along with Genis and Colette, before he jumps down a cliff and throws one of his swords at the giant Sword Dancer. For a couple of seconds, the camera runs through a forest, where also some unidentified creatures are running a distance away. After that, Lloyd is shown in the deserts as he unsheathes his swords to train, and some seconds later the views changes to him, Genis and Colette on a boat as Genis is leaning and watching forward. Afterward, Colette is shown walking in a valley of tall gras. At the end of the pre-chorus, she stops and looks a little to the side as the wind plays with her hair.
While the music is played between the pre-chorus and the bridge, the camera shows a close-up to a forest, a river, and at the end the Tower of Salvation, and the title of the game shows.
When the bridge is being sung, Lloyd is shown battling some scelletons, most likely the first monsters encountered in the game in Iselia. As he slays one of them, a close-up of his head is shown. The view is quickly changed to the dragon in the Temple of Earth, where Colette attacks it with her ring, before it again changes to Regal, who is standing on a cliff before Lloyd, Colette and Presea, looking down on an unidentified village. The camera then changes to Raine who is using her rod to attack a soldier as it shines. Upon the contact on the soldier, the camera shows a close-up to her face. Afterward, an unidentified city (possibly Palmacosta) is shown behind a large bridge, before the view again changes to Genis, who is using his kendama to attack the camera (though is most likely attacking an enemy off-screened). The scenes are then changed to Zelos with his groupies in Meltokio as the turns after the head of Colette with a smirk, then to Presea and Regal in a burning village (possibly Ozette) as Presea watches with a shocked yet sad look in a close-up, then over to Sheena who is looking upward at the possibly Mana Cannon, and finally to a giant tree (possibly the Giant Kharlan Tree), where the view changes to Kratos sitting before it with closed eyes, leaning down on his sword. Then, right before the chorus starts, Colette is shown summoning her wings either in a shining altar or on a shining circle.
When the chorus starts, Presea is shown using her ax on a stone monster in a desert (possibly in the Triet Ruins, although the in-game monsters that the opening has are seen in Martel Temple). She puts the ax down when she has killed it before the view changes to the group walking in a place with a snow storm (possiby in the island Flanoir is located). Regal is then shown in a carriage, possibly for committing his crimes. Zelos is then shown with his sword, pointing it toward the camera with a playful smirk, before three Rheairds are shown with Lloyd, Genis and Raine riding them as they fly past Exire. At the end of the chorus, Regal is seen using his feets to hit an enemy twice, each time showing a glimce of his serious face, and the camera then changes over to Lloyd, Colette, Genis, Raine and Zelos walking a mountain road.
When the second chorus begins, Sheena runs toward a monster. As the monster tries to hit her, she jumps backwards and does something to the monster to make it explode in purple liquit. The view is then changed over to Kratos, who is taking a step forward, before the perspective is changing to his, and shows Lloyd sheathing his sword as he stands before Colette and Sheena. The view then changes back to the valley of tall gras, where Lloyd is seen turning toward the camera (or Colette). Colette is the seen opening her eyes before she approaches Lloyd. When she is close enough, she takes his hands and circles her finger in it (this may be a hint of the time in the game where Colette could not talk and therefore had to communicate by writing on people's hands). Lloyd blinkes, but Colette just smiles with a weak blush on her cheeks.
As the music plays, the view changes first to a large area possibly in Sylvarant, before it goes to a city filled with snow (possibly Flanoir), where Lloyd and Colette are standing, and Colette first looks at a smiling Lloyd before she leans against his shoulder. At the very end, Lloyd is seen inthe deserts finishing his sword training, and the last scene is when he unsheathes his sword, where his Exsphere is perfectly seen as the camera's view fades.
