Susie Quess (スージー・クエス Suujii Kuesu?) is a minor supporting character in Tales of Rebirth.

History[]

Pursuit in Sannytown[]

Susie is first seen in Sannytown fleeing from Militsa of the Four Stars, who is pursuing Susie because she escaped from Calegia Castle. After hearing a scream, the protagonists rush to find Susie slightly injured and in damaged clothing. When Militsa approaches, they are surprised to see that she is a Half, so Militsa scolds their sickening stares and demand they forfeit Susie, who flees, prompting Militsa to temporarily subdue the group and continue pursuing her. While the group deters Militsa and manages to overcome her in a fight, Susie hides in a local house, where the group later finds her after the commotion has settled. There, Susie explains how she was captured in the city of Belsas by a Huma and Gajuma, referring to Saleh and Tohma, respectively, of the Four Stars.

Susie claims she was carried by boat to Balka, where she was confined to Calegia Castle, and although she and the other Huma girls were not allowed to leave the room in which they were placed, she tells how they were not exposed to any danger as long as they cooperated. Susie then gives her account of being taken by Zilva Madigan to meet Agarte Lindblum, who did something strange that left Susie unconscious. When she awoke, she was back in the room, but fearing her life, she feigned illness and hid in a garbage bag in order to be removed from the castle. Afterward, she climbed on a ship and somehow came to Sannytown, where Militsa came to retrieve her after discovering she was missing. Susie then thanks the group and asks that they visit her if ever they should be in Belsas, where she plans to return once things have calmed down in the city, as she fears her father may be worried about her.

Reunion in Belsas[]

Later in the story, when the group arrives in Belsas, Susie approaches them, thanking them again for saving her in Sannytown. After explaining how her father has just returned from a trip abroad and she missed him at the port, Susie retreats to her home, but not before inviting the group to visit. When Susie arrives at her home, she discovers her father, Scarab (スカラベ Sukarabe?), with whom appears to be Queen Agarte. Scarab rejects the notion that the woman is Agarte, instead offering her to Susie as a Gajuma servant, as he is particularly racist against Gajuma. Susie declines her father's gesture, but he insists, leaving Susie to privately inform "Agarte", who is later revealed to be Claire Bennett, that she must leave.

Despite Scarab's insistence in having "Agarte" as a servant for Susie after her traumatic experience, Susie feels uncomfortable after having met Queen Agarte herself. Susie goes so far as to confront "Agarte" about her identity, but Claire denies being the Queen, nonetheless leaving Susie to allow her to escape so that she is not reminded of the events prior to the crowning ceremony. Susie suggests "Agarte" retreat to the other section of town across the bridge, where the Gajuma live. Some time later, the group visits Susie at her home, a large mansion in the north of the city, where Susie introduces the group to Scarab and asks him if the group can stay the night. Scarab allows it but refuses to permit Eugene Gallardo, whom he presumes is a servant, the invitation due to his race.

Eugene offers to stay at the local inn, where the others, clearly offended by Scarab's words, state they will join him. Susie beckons for them to at least stay for a meal, but Hilda Rhambling politely declines for the group, citing Scarab's "forbidding expression" as the reason. Outside, Susie apologizes for her father's behavior, mentioning how he has held contempt for Gajuma for as long as she can remember. The group accepts her apology but nonetheless retreats to the inn before "Agarte" returns to the mansion on behalf of the Gajuma residents of the city. Despite Susie's attempt to have "Agarte" leave, Claire proceeds inside to speak with Scarab, which leads to her arrest and near-execution the following day. Scarab is later arrested by the Calegian army for his attempt at executing "Agarte", and Susie is not seen again.
