Tales of Eternia: The Animation is a 13-episode anime series inspired by Tales of Eternia, incorporating the use of its four main protagonists and other common elements despite being entirely unrelated to the original story of the game. The series was first aired in Japan on January 8, 2001 and ran until March 26, 2001. Although the series was licensed by the American entertainment corporation, Media Blasters, on July 6, 2002 for North American distribution, the company's license expired, and the series was never released in the region.
The plot consists of covering part of Reid Hershel, Farah Oersted, Keele Zeibel, and Meredy's journey to Celestia, which did not take place in the game. The anime introduces a few new characters, including Maronne Buruqano, as well as some familiar ones. The plot is neither spoiler nor a retelling of the game's story. The anime begins with Reid and his companions on their quest to prevent the Grand Fall and having already obtained three Greater Craymels of Inferia. On the way to Mt. Farlos, Reid is captured by Marrone, prompting Reid's companions to journey to Belcagne, an archipelago far from the major cities of Inferia. The plot follows the protagonists' adventures on the islands, where they soon discover another threat to Inferia.
