Tales of Destiny II vs. Tales of Destiny 2

I just changed it without realizing that it was done once already. If people would like to talk, that is fine. I just want people to make it clear to me; what do we want Tales of Destiny II to describe? Tales of Eternia or the second installment in the Tales of Destiny universe starring Kyle? I use Tales of Destiny II for Eternia because that's how it's written on the game case; Tales of Destiny 2 for the Kyle one because that's what the box art says.

The actual logo for ToD2j is "Tales of Destiny 2" -- the American localization of Tales of Eternia is "Tales of Destiny II" -- thus, it should be "Tales of Destiny 2" --ChronoSpark 23:36, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Kinda late, but whatever. I changed it (specifically the Fandom part to "other") the other day to make it more accurate. Tempest isn't a main game, and Tales of Eternia Online didn't fit into any of the categories before the edit (it, too, was under main games). I also don't think ToS: KoR is a main game, now that I look at it. It's generally called a "spin-off sequel"--Drache 15:14, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
With the latest issue of Nintendo Power out, we should first change the name to "Dawn of the New World" (to stay true to that English name only thing), and also, it was mentioned that it fell between sequel and spin-off. I'm going to change the atricles so that they use Nintendo of America's names. They've been used in the game and the OVA already so they're probably official. DeJap fanboys may argue, but then, nobody goes around calling Raine "Refill" just to stay true to the Japanese version, do they? --Meeps

I think the main page should include less encyclopedic information since it slightly makes the page look tacky, the purpose of the main page isn't for having encyclopedic information, and it makes the page too long. --Imaginationac 02:53, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I second that notion but point out that if you fill the page with too many of those text boxy things, that might also make it look a bit messy. Who knows though. You did good work on them other layouts, Imaginationac, so chances are you'll make it look alright. --Meeps

[edit] Main page not appearing correctly in IE 6

The only problem I see are the intro tables I created on the front page are way out of place, or not there at all. Is this happening to anyone else using IE 6? --128.192.39.3 01:23, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

The intro tables are shown incorrectly for me by using IE 6 as well. I've tested it with Firefox version 2.0.0.3 and Opera version 9.10, so it's a IE 6 problem only. --Genjis 09:02, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

On the main page, there is only a single link to a Tales fansite (Tales Central) but since there a are more than one Tales fansites on web, I sugesst to add more links from other fansites to not let become Tales Central a monopoly because the visitors only see this link and favor this fansite. Tales Central is more a "database" as a site with helpul information after all. I know a lot fansites, but we can't list them all, can we? However, I would suggest that we add Temple of Undine and Raijinken.net beside Tales Central. These both sites have a large list of affiliates, which means a lot of links to other fansites, and the purpose to link the visitors to as much fansites as possible is erfüllt. To spare place, we could make it like this:

We could also add a line with other language Tales fansites to give it an international touch.

By the way, I could add links to fansites on the specific game articles which spicify to a single Tales game, like Tales of Symphonia only, Tales of Eternian only, and so on. I know a lot informal and helpful sites, especially the european ones. And since this is a wiki, an encyclopedia, it would be good to list nearly everything, right? The Wikipedia articles to the specific Tales games includes links to fansites already. -- Genjis

I went ahead and added a Wikia Gaming footer to the bottom of the Main Page. We're trying to get Wikia's gaming wikis more linked with each other. It's not mandatory, so you can remove it if you really hate it, but it would be appreciated if you didn't :). You can change the links to point to any other wikia wikis you like or cooperate with. Hopefully you have read about the skin and ad changes at Wikia's New Style on Central Wikia. If not, I hope you'll have a look.

One of the changes is a block of two ads on each main page. It's possible that they won't always show up, but to ensure your main page continues to work properly when they do, you need to update your main page column formatting code with new column tags.

I have drafted a main page using the new tags on User:Kirkburn/Dev which I hope you can take a look at - feel free to make a copy and edit it. Though the layout may seem restrictive at first, there really is a fair amount you can do with them - for example see these customized main pages - Muppet Wiki, WoWWiki, FFXIclopedia. You may want to chat with your wiki community about what direction to take with a new main page.

If you encounter any problems with the new tags, please let us know.

[edit] Table colors

Hey, not sure who to talk to about this, so I'll post it here.
Is there any chance we can get the default text color for tables changed for the Gaming color scheme? It's white text on a white background, which is difficult to read to say the least. I'm not sure if this is something that can be fixed here or if it's a Wikia thing, but I thought I'd ask.

If you are talking about to the references I've talk to over 6 admins at other wikis and they say references are not needed, only at wikipedia they are needed, but wikia has no policy for information added that needs reference.--Zolo 20:34, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
I add my sources to every page I add to this wiki, since I think it's helpful if someone wants to see how the data was listed elsewhere. This is more important if the pages are in Japanese (like those from Majestic Phantasian or the various JP @wiki communities) - they cannot be found easily using English-based search engines, and they generally carry more info like suggestions on how/when to use certain attacks, or how to optomize their abilities, things that become far too much to write out in English without separate articles for each attack (which is why I started that [stalled] project in the first place). I could care less if the reference sections are deleted though, it's not really my problem, but I prefer to keep them. Just keep in mind that every article and stub that I have made here has a "References" section, so that's like, hundreds of pages to sort through if you want all of them deleted.

I typically prefer references as well, perhaps not to the same extent as Mayu, but definitely some.
I guess it's not as important here, but on the Digimon wikia there is a lot of misinformation and misconceptions floating around, so over there we've gotten into the habit of sourcing and adding references. Aselia doesn't have the same amount of problems, but I do believe having some references on hand are good. Lanate (talk) 01:35, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

I hope it's not just my computer, but is it possible to have the Tales of... Navigation on as above the page as possible? If it could get before the news, and MAYBE before the welcome box, then it could work? It would just be easier for people to see the navigation if it washigher up.

We use the official localized names on this wiki, whether we like them or not. I assure you that I hate Kronos and GARRRRRR as much as anyone else, and I would find it amusing to use Japanese nicknames like "Empty Space" instead of Nanaly, but this is our standard. If we were in charge of that other wikia, then yes we would use the localized name "Zolo"; in fact, one of our users is named with that spelling.

That makes no sense at all. It is always a horrible idea to use English names over the original names. Especially when they were already romanized from the ORIGINAL Tales of Phantasia. Also you wouldn't since Zolo was only used in edited dubs. Funimation uses Zoro in their uncut DVDs. Drunk Samurai 20:18, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

This is the English-language wikia for the Tales series; therefore, it's our policy to use only the official localized names, when available. Other wikias may use whichever naming convention that they wish, but it is their choice to do so; whether the One Piece wikia uses Zolo or Zoro has absolutely no effect on what we use here.
Like it or not, Cress and Claus are the official localized names; even TalesRPG.com, the official English Tales website, uses the names "Cress" and "Claus" (though the site itself has several typoes and the like, so perhaps it wasn't the best example; regardless, it does not change the fact that the website uses Cress and Claus). Believe me when I say that I dislike these names myself, but I accept that they are the official localized names. Besides, in my opinion, it is unprofessional to switch naming conventions to suit the character; if we use Cless and Klarth, then by extension we must use the names "Refill" and "Shihna", which are simply unacceptable on an ENGLISH wiki.

This is not Wikipedia this is a wikia. It is 100% acceptable to use ORIGINAL AND CORRECT names on this wikia. It's like saying O-Parts Hunter instead of 666 Satan or Case Closed instead of Detective Conan are the correct names. Our stance on this matter simply will not change. I do not know why you continue to bring other series into this discussion, as whatever they do in their own fandoms is up to them. While we realize that we are a wikia, it is our choice and our choice only to bring use localized, OFFICIAL information. Yes, I did just use the word official, shock and alarm. These localized names and terms are just as official as the ones used in glorious Nippon land - in fact, in Vesperia and Dawn's cases, both the localization and development teams even worked together! - so you'll just have to deal with it, to put it bluntly.
Honestly though, did you come here JUST to complain about the names used in our wiki? That notion in itself is just as absurd as you say using localized names is. Using the localized terms is NOT incorrect in every case, as you seem to believe. This is, again, an ENGLISH LANGUAGE WIKIA (does that need to be any clearer?), so just as you say using the names from the original Japanese release is 100% acceptable, so is using the localized names. I'm not saying that the localized naming convention is more "right" than the Japanese names, but it is the naming convention we use on this wiki. You can feel free to use the original names elsewhere on forums, etc. if you'd like, but that won't change a thing here.
English language wiki, localized names. That's how we do things here.

You're entitled to your own opinions on how you render these names for yourself. But all of our opinions are irrelevant when we post information in an official display. The localized names take precedent in all cases, without exception, because this is an English website and resource. The information that we present here is designed to be more accessible and understandable for those who read it - specifically the English-speaking players who are familiar with the English names. In fact, I wish we were more like Wikipedia... we might get more traffic and contributions that way.
If you think the original Japanese names are so superior (including those terrible names like Rid, Lion, Genius), I suggest you get your information instead from the many dozens of Japanese atwiki and futaba wiki sites that exist, which tend to have a whole wealth of info that we haven't even attempted to translate yet. Surely you'll be able to get more out of those sites than from this one, because Japan's resources are oh so much more superior to our own. Our only advantage (penalty? handicap? disability?) is the English language, so we make full use of our language to cater to the English-speaking audience.

So let's see. Even though the names you use are WRONG you still use them? All the names were changed in 2008. Let me guess. You didn't even run a consensus for it before the change or blocked every person who wanted the correct names right? BTW your reasoning for using Cress and Claus is completely wrong. More people know about the fan translated ROM than the PSX version. So English speaking people know the names Cless and Klarth over what is used here. Drunk Samurai 07:27, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Protip: ROMs are illegal. Anyone who is not a pirate, specifically anyone who wants to support this series by buying the games to prove to Namco that there are people outside of Japan who want more Tales games, have purchased and played the localized GBA version, possibly as their only version. And though I freely admit that I do pirate some games of my own, that doesn't change the fact that Cress/Claus and the last names Albane/Adenade/Burklight/Klein were used in the official localization, and that all of these name changes were retained in the Phantasia OVA dub. The names are not "completely wrong", they are completely correct for the context of this wiki.
We use the names that are published by Namco Bandai and its localization branch known as Namco Hometek. If Hometek uses the name, we use the same name. If Hometek changes the name, we follow their lead. There is zero margin for error, and this is how things have been since this wiki was created. Again, if you like the original names better, please direct yourself to the nearest Japanese-language wiki site instead. I suggest Majestic Phantasian or Tales of Surprise. Clearly we don't have enough Japanese birds cooking spaghetti (ilu /jp/), and I'm sorry that you don't accept the way we do things here.
If you feel the need to complain further, please file your complaint with Namco Bandai, as it's their decisions, not our own, to determine how to name the characters.
