The Title

It seems this game is called Knight of Ratatosk because Ratatosk is a squirrel who lived in the branches of Yggdrasil in Norse Mythology. --Meeps

Source?--Imaginationac (Talk) (Edits) (Email) 13:20, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

All of the original game's party members bar Kratos will be returning

So, does this mean that Zelos didn't you-know-what? It's an ugly term, but wasn't that regarded as 'canon' for quite a long time? --Kaiser Dist ZX 10:33, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Indeed. Zelos lives. Proof is halfway down this page here http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=172750&page=8 --Meeps

Rather have a better source than a forum thread, so I found it :) Famitsu photo of potential cast.--Imaginationac (Talk) (Edits) (Email) 13:37, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Umm.... So where was it stated that it was 10-player WiFi? o.o;;

It wasn't.

Titles

So, I was wondering--since the original cast doesn't obtain any titles (save for Lloyd's Peeping Tom reemergence), can we not do their title pages? Emil and Marta obtains theirs normally, but it seems that they simply cycle through old titles at random. Is it worth documenting? Lanate (talk) 17:53, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

If there aren't enough titles to be worth making full pages, then I have no objections with ignoring them. One other option might be to put all the titles on one page, if it doesn't make everything too cluttered, but personally I'd avoid that.
From what I have heard though, the titles change based on chapters or events. I never looked into the details of this though, if it is true or not. I know Regal gets his business suit costume towards the end of the game, so I assumed that was a title too. If you think it would be better to ignore the title pages, then that's fine.

My opinion may not matter, but from what I've seen in YouTube, the titles the old cast has/gets for each time they join the team is from the original (except Lloyd's "Lonesome General" or something), and can't be changed, compared to Emil and Marta's titles. I don't think there are any reasons to have the old cast's titles. How about the titles that are used in the sequel are mentioned in their Titles-page? Like, Colette's first title in DotNW is "Ironing Board", and therefore it can be a notice on Colette's title-page for ToS that it is also used by her in DotNW.

Response

Should we have an extra category for games that are sequels? It would be kind of trouble, though, since ToS is concidered a prequel, etc..

No. What good would that do anyway, since many of the "sequel" games have very little to do with the original - each of the NariDan games (except the first), Tales of Eternia Online, etc. Just stick with mothership/escort, the way Namdai JP sorts them.

Original Cast Downgrades

Everybody who played the original game probably knows the rememberly cast of Tales of Symphonia. It seems in the sequal all of them are big downgrades of their original selves. So many different artes, artes taken away, level 50 level cap, Regal who had a kick ass mystic arte in the ps2 version now probably has the worst in the entire series! Heck I like em so much I'm trying to get herps to raise their stats. If there is anyone out there that knows why they were downgraded please reply. Nathbud789

This wiki is not a discussion forum. You'll have more people answer your topics if you go to a site dedicated to discussing the series, such as the official Tales forums.

Same Map, Different landscapes

I have seen the maps for both games and know that they are identical but the landscapes for the areas changed over 4000 years such as grasslands to deserts. Does this have anything to do with Ratatosk rewriting the code so mana does not sustain life even though mana would still exist because its like that in Phantasia.

--User:Nathbud789 10:45,Febuary 15,2010 (UTC)

It's explained in the game. The merging of the worlds created catastrophic weather situations everywhere, and they can be stopped only after awakening the Centurions and Ratatosk himself, and then redistributing the flow of mana.

Alice and Decus Hacked artes

Just out of curiosity should Alice and Decus be included in the artes section because technically they are playable if the game is hacked and they do have their own artes.

User:Nathbud789 19:11,March 1,2010 (UTC)

NO.
Byakuren Hijiri (talk) 01:16, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
And if you want to be "technical", we do not promote hacks or glitches on this wiki. I don't care if they have artes in their dummied playable data, because they are not legitimate functions of their characters within the official release of the game. I'd say more, but anything else will just go over your head again.
Why did you come back again?
Byakuren Hijiri (talk) 01:26, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
Why are you against hacks and glitches Mayu? I mean other wikis explain them in articles. --LloydIrving 02:30, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

The returning chars' titles are randomly chosen after resting at an inn. All of their titles are listed on their own title pages, linked through here.
And don't delete previous discussions. I have reverted the page back to the way it was, and copied your post without overwriting what was here originally.

Japanese title

Says Ratatosk no Kishi, but if we're doing romanization, wouldn't we want Teiruzu obu as well? If the Japanese title is already in the description, why not just put Knight of Ratatosk as the alternate title? Imperialx5 (talk) 17:05, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

No. "Tales of Symphonia: Ratatosk no Kishi" is the title in Japan. It is not written as "Knight of Ratatosk" anywhere other than in initial English announcements of the game in unofficial magazines. Therefore, the two valid titles are "Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World" as localized, and "Tales of Symphonia: Ratatosk no Kishi" as rendered in Japan. The romanization which is included as part of the translation of JP text only applies to that text, within the {{nihongo}} tag, and it is by no means the title of anything, just a transliteration of the name when rendered with kana and kanji.
