Terresia is the world in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology. It is blessed with enormous amount of mana. However, under assault by the "Devourer", its mana is slowly but clearly drained, and in the game’s timeline, only one third of Terresia is left. Because of this crisis, Terresia’s World Tree uses the last of its power to create a Descender, which is the player him- or herself. Throughout the last remnants of Terresia, there exists a guild called Ad Libitum. This guild seeks to help the people of the world, fighting injustice and oppression.

Contents

[edit] Ailily

Ailily is the first area the player is on, and will also be the last. It is the closest area to the World Tree of Terresia, and its Ad Libitum chapter leader is Kratos Aurion from Tales of Symphonia, his assistant being Raine Sage from same game.

[edit] Locations

[edit] Foot of the World Tree

This is the first location the player is on, for it is the place he or she will be born.

[edit] Awakening

The hero, after being awakened by a strange creature named Mormo whose own world was destroyed by the same threat, learns of the danger to this world's World Tree. Upon hearing a scream, the player rushes to discover that a girl is being attacked by a soldier.

[edit] Meeting Kanonno

After rescuing the girl, a man named Chester Burklight from Tales of Phantasia races forth and asks if she is all right. she introduces herself as Kannono, a member of an organization named Ad Libitum. With no better leads, the player and Mormo set out to join Ad Libitum, hoping to learn more about the location of the Devourer.

Later, at the end of the game, the player, Mormo and Kanonno go to the third floor of the Foot of the World Tree in order to stop the mana from flowing into Gilgulim. There, however, they are met by Aurora. The latter tells that she will not let them save Terresea, and tells them about her own past as a Descender; in her unnamed world, people were always using mana for their own benefits. When the world began to losing all its mana, its World Tree gave birth to her. However, she did not manage to stop the mana from disappearing, and eventually, the world’s people left her and the World Tree for other places with more mana. Grieving over the rejection, she was found by Widdershin, and decided to help him in order to make one, immortal world.
Aurora tells Kanonno that it is not too late for her to come back to them; if she does, she is sure that Widdershin will forgive her. Kanonno, however, has decided which side she wants to be on, and rejects her. They then fight her.

After the fight, she is telling them that Widdershin will save the worlds, and just wants to make a world that will never die or leave them. She then disappears in fragments of light, a fate that seems to happen when Descenders die.
The player, Mormo and Kanonno realize that they have to stop the mana flow, but it is almost too late; they have to defeat Widdershin and Gilgulim for the last time, but they can not just leave the World Tree like it is. Kanonno sighs, before she says that she will stay by the World Tree and stop the mana flow while the player and Mormo go and stop Widdershin. They bid farewell for now before they separate.

In order to fight Chester through a Trial Quest, the player has to go to the Foot of the World Tree. It is also here the Descenders go to find a treasure at the third level.

[edit] Ailily

Ailily town is the first town the player and Mormo will visit, and it is described as sleepy and peaceful. However, that was before the town was forced under Ganser’s control, and the peace disappeared. From that point on and until the beginning of the game, villagers are not allowed to leave the town, people outside of town are not allowed inside, and the villagers have to pay large taxes through their farm products, leaving almost nothing left for themselves.

At some point, Ad Libitum was created, helping people to survive in the outside, but actually trying to stop Ganser.

When the player and Mormo comes into the town, they see how a man, who apparently tried to get outside the town to find herbs with healing abilities to his sick daughter, gets taken prisoner by Ganser.

After this scene, they will go to the guild, where they meet Raine Sage, who works as the assistant of the leader of Ad Libitum’s Ailily chapter’s leader, Kratos Aurion. As they think the player and Mormo want to join the guild, Kratos rejects them for the reason of being enough of a fighter. However, he gives them a chance to prove themselves, and lets them become apprentices.

After they have becomes members of Ad Libitum, they help them with more requests, and also are a part of Ailily’s plot for freedom by joining forces with Doplund’s Ad Libitum. When Kanonno is being taken to the Orphic Maze, however, they have to start the operation immediately, and send the player, Mormo and, depending on the player’s choices, some others to help the prisoners.

After Ailily is freed from Ganser, everybody is happy and celebrating, and Kanonno is there to meet the player after he or she saved her. They agree to go to Doplund together.

[edit] Hallowed Bastion

The last Hallowed Bastion of four which used to protect Ailily from monsters with their barriers, now, monsters and bandits are living there.

The first time the Descenders go there is to investigate if they can find any traces of life there, as it is suspected that some of Ganser’s prisoners may be there. In the, end they find a doll there (representing Tokunaga, Anise’s weapon from Tales of the Abyss), with a message for help. They go back to give it to Kratos.

The next time they go there, they are there to look for an Ad Libitum-member named Lloyd. When they eventually find him, however, he thinks they are under Ganser, and fights them. After the fight, Kratos will show up and tell them that the whole mission was the final test to see if the player and Mormo are good enough to become fully members of Ad Libitum. Seen as they did, they are officially members. Kratos and Lloyd go beforehand back to Ailily to discuss the information about some “Orphic Maze” Lloyd heard from the guards while spying.

The third time entering the place, they are there to free the prisoners who are there. The last prisoner they free is named Stahn, who is a member of Doplund’s Ad Libitum. He is escorted back to Ailily to report Doplund’s preparation to assist Ailily against Ganser.

When it is time for Stahn to go back, the player and Mormo are the ones who escort him. Before leaving them, they agree to see him in Doplund once the whole thing with Ganser is over.

The Hallowed Bastion is also where the player can fight Lloyd through a Trial Quest.

[edit] Orphic Maze

The Orphic Maze appears when Ad Libitum is going to take Ganser down for good. As Kanonno and several others were taken here for sacrifices, the player and Mormo go there to save them. When they are about to fight him, the place shakes, making Ganser satisfied. He says that “it” is hungry, and runs off. While Kanonno and the other prisoners go to safety, the Descenders follow Ganser to the next level, where they see the Devourer. Ganser says that he will kill them and give their bodies to it, and the fight begins.

After the fight, Ganser falls to his knees begging for forgiveness from “Lord Widdershin”. They hear a voice who says that Ganser is useless and that he has no longer the need for him. Then, Ganser is killed by an unknown force, and Widdershin reveals himself. In the following discussion, he reveals that he is merely doing his job by protecting Gilgulim, the world he is a Descender of, as it consumes gargantuan amounts of mana. He then tries to strike down the player, only to be stopped by an aura that protects the player and destroys the Gilgulim node in the Orphic Maze.

In a side-quest, it is possible for the player, Mormo and Raine to go to the Orphic Maze to study the ruins there. However, Raine becomes possessed by a spirit called the Niata, which bears enormous knowledge and can answer Mormo’s questions. It says that even though Descenders are born to protect the world only, he or she can still live on to see the happy world. Then, it also says that it is from another world, telling that it because betrayed by its Descender. However, before it can say the name, the Niata loses connection to Raine, and the latter collapses.

[edit] Gilgulim

Gilgulim is the last area the player can visit, and is also where the final battle will be held. It is a mix of all the worlds the world has consumed.

[edit] Doplund

Doplund is the next region the player, Mormo and Kanonno visits. It is known for its mineral success and huge economy, and its Ad Libitum chapter leader is Garr Kelvin from Tales of Destiny, his assistant being Philia Felice from same game.

[edit] Locations

[edit] Doplund

The first time the Descenders enter Doplund, they are greeted by Stahn. As they go around the city, they meet more and more members from Ad Libitum, everyone recognizing them from Stahn’s stories. As they are there looking for some more information about Gilgulim, they end up helping many in the guild in the operations of finding the mystery of the earthquakes.

[edit] Mine

When the player and Mormo eventually find out that the source of the earthquakes may be in the Mine, they go to investigate. There, they find another node of Gilgulim, just like the one in the Orphic Maze. The player is not able to destroy it like the first time, so Mormo suggests that they go back to report to Philia. However, they are stopped and forced to fight a giant worm, which may be the guardian of the node. When the worm is defeated, the player suddenly manages to destroy the node, and does so.

Later on, the Descenders together with Stahn go to the Mine in order to defeat the last monster that is blocking the path to Gavada. After defeating it, Mormo get a breakdown as he thinks through how nice everybody has been to him from the starts on.

It is also in the Mine it is possible for the player to fight a Trial Quest against Stahn.

The Lavacleft is the second area for the player and Mormo to visit in the Doplund region. They first go there in order to investigate the earthquakes.

[edit] Weald

Weald is the forest in the Doplund region. The first time the player and Mormo visits the area, they go in order to find and help Leon, who is still hurt after the last encounter, defeating a node of Gilgulim. When they eventually find him, Leon is first against having them with them, telling them that the Devourer took his homeland, and thus he needs revenge even if he goes with it. Mormo tells him that they in Ad Libitum are all one big family, so Leon can not just think he is alone in everything. Eventually, Leon gives in, telling them that as long as they do not get in his way, they can come with him.

When they get to the Devourer, they meet the guardian, and fight it. After the defeat of the guardian, the player uses its Descender powers and makes the node vanish. However, the player is exhausted, and passes out. Leon takes the player back to Doplund on his back while cheering him or her on. This pass-out makes Mormo worry for the player and the World Tree, but does not say anything for the time being.

Later, they go back to the place where the node was located in order to see if that is the reason for the mana draining. On their way there, they see a girl who looks like Kanonno, but they are not able to follow her. When they get to the node, Mormo feels like his mana will be drained to the hole there if he lets his guard down. They decide to report back to Philia.

Later, they go back to look for the girl they saw earlier. They go to the place the node used to be, and there they see Kanonno. Although they are relieved to see Kanonno, she herself is cold toward them, saying she told herself to never see them again. The then explains that she used to be a Descender of a world called Pasca. However, the people of Pasca were constantly at war, and the mana began to fade as a result. In desperation, Kanonno destroyed the whole humanity in Pasca. Regretting the action later on, she was found by Widdershin. Widdershin promised her that the humanity of Pasca would be reborn if she joined helped him, and so she did by letting Gilgulim devour her world. She continued to help Widdershin and Aurora to weaken other worlds' World Trees and let Widdershin's world consume them, until they came to the World Tree of Terresia. The latter was too strong, though, and sent Kanonno off, giving her amnesia. Then she was found and taken care of by Chester.

The player and Mormo are shocked about this, but insist that Kanonno has not changed even though she got her memories back. However, Kanonno's wish for getting Pasca back makes a new node of Gilgulim sprout out, and Kanonno challenges the player for a fight in order to protect it. After the battle, Kanonno gets a break down, but seeing the player and Mormo forgiving her, she returns upon realizing that it is with the player and Ad Libitum’s side she wants to be on. She also tells them that the core of Gilgulim is in Ailily.

[edit] Gavada

Doplund is the third and last region the player, Mormo and Kanonno finds. It is known for its bless of mana and cold clima, and its Ad Libitum chapter leader is Eugene Gallardo from Tales of Rebirth, his assistant being Annie Barrs from same game.

[edit] Gavada

The city Gavada used to be blessed by the large amount of mana, though it has always been a cold place with not as much rich minerals as Doplund. However, the leaders recently took a woman named Aurora to their aid, and through her research, the city became a subject of luxury, and nobody needed to work any longer. This made Aurora to a very popular and famous woman in the region. However, Ad Libitum understood that something was fishy about it, and tried to get the people to change their minds. This made the people of Gavade angry at the guild, and only look at them as a group of handymen, the only group of people who will do any kind of work for them Harold Berselius, however, did not give up and always made noise in the city.

When the player and Mormo come to Gavada, Eugene and Annie tells them to leave. They explain that the luxury the townspeople are experiencing is just false peace, as their luxury is paid by large amount of mana outside the city. Because there are such dangers in the region, they tell travelers to get out in order to protect them. Mormo then says that they are looking for Harold, but they are disappointed by the news; Harold has gone missing.
The player, Mormo and Kanonno go around in town to ask if someone knows where Harold could be. They get to know that she was last seen in the Aelderwoods, and because of this, plus because Gavada’s Ad Libitum is short on people, they decide to stay there and help with requests.

Later on, the player and Mormo meet Senel again. However, he is too depressed to listen to them, and is about to leave when Mormo tells him to get out of himself and realize that if he does not help Ad Libitum to save the world, he and his sister have no place to be reunited. Because of these words, Senel decides to help them. When they also see that Tear has decided to tell Luke that they are not in their worlds, Mormo asks them to stop fighting for once and help them, as well. They decide to do that, for if not, they might not find a way to get to their own world.

When the player and Mormo have managed to save Harold, they all ask if she can help Kanonno to get her memory back. As she says yes, Kanonno thanks the heroes one last time before going to Harold’s laboratory, also getting to know that the player and Mormo are Descenders. However, after managing to stop the mana flow in Gavada, they get to know that Kanonno got her memory back, and became so shocked that she ran off. As Gavada now must learn how to live in the hard clima again, the player and Mormo go and look after Kanonno.

[edit] Aelderwood

The first time the player and Mormo go to the Aelderwood is to look for Harold. When they eventually find a staff that belongs to Harold, however, Mormo cannot breathe because of the recently new toxins there, and they are forced to retreat.

The next time, however, they have an ice flower from the Frosthollow and use it to neutralize the toxins. When they get further in, they find a collapsed woman, and Mormo is shocked when he realizes that this woman is Harold. After she wakes up, eats his lunch and passes out again, they decide to take her back to Gavada.

[edit] Frosthollow

The Frosthollow is a frozen place, known as the mines of Gavada. Ice is found everywhere, and only monsters made of the water element are able to live in such a place.

The player, Mormo and Eugene go to the Frosthollow in order to find a research subject made by Harold, in hope it might neutralize the toxins in the Aelderwood. When they have reached the subject, however, Mormo sneezes, awakening the spirits close by. After the battle, Mormo wonders if he is the only one who feels sorry for the spirits. However, he ignores it and follows them all out of the Frosthollow.
