Tidal Wave (タイダルウェイブ / タイダルウェーブ Taidaruueibu / Taidaruueebu?) is a classic spell in the Tales series, typically appearing as a powerful Water-element spell.
Arte Description and History
In most earlier games, this spell creates a tidal wave that originates from the background, which grows in size as it moves closer to the battlefield to engulf all enemies. Later games that feature 3D gameplay reinterpret the design of this spell as a swirling vortex of water that covers most, if not all, of the battlefield, rapidly damaging enemies wherever they stand within the vortex. In Tales of Legendia, it instead appears as two torrents of water that surround and trap an enemy, followed by a bigger, stronger one that aims at its target. It is Shirley Fennes's final Crystal Eres and the strongest Sea-elemental Eres.
In Tales of Symphonia, Tidal Wave can be obtained by Genis Sage, derived from Spread after achieving its mastery, but only if he is focused on the "Technical" branch of arte progression. This spell has no direct "Strike" counterpart, although it indirectly replaces Atlas due to the latter spell's progression from Aqua Laser, the "Strike" counterpart of Spread. If Tidal Wave is used with Ray in a Unison Attack, it will form Prism Stars.
