On this page I will be outlining my ideas and plans to improve the wiki in a formal proposal to the Aselia community. After I complete the proposal, I will put it up for debate, amending, and a vote. The issues that will be covered are:

Please discuss additional ideals and changes here. The proposal is now open for discussion!
[edit] Purpose of the wiki
Currently the purpose of the wiki is:
- "Aselia is a comprehensive encyclopedia that covers the games, characters, locations, story lines, and other relevant material to the series."
According to the current purpose, this wiki should contain articles on all the games, all the characters, all locations (worlds, continents, countries, regions, cities/towns/villages, dungeons, and other areas), detailed story lines. The phrase "other relevant material" refers to merchandise, animated adaptations and spin offs, music, and specific features of the series (battle systems, game play, relation to one another). As it it stands, I think the purpose is fine, but some articles will have to be deleted because they do not follow the purpose.
[edit] Wikipedia migration policy
I think that importing the decent Wikipedia articles would help save a lot of time. As long as there is mention that the articles are imported from Wikipedia, there should not be an issue with copyright infringement.
[edit] Article Standards
Here are the article standards I believe should be followed when creating and editing an article.
[edit] Naming Articles
Please use the latest North American localized name when creating new articles (i.e. Raine Sage, not Refill Sage). Use first and last names for characters when available, and only one name in the title.
[edit] Introduction
[edit] Length
All articles need an introduction of at least two sentences, and no longer than three paragraphs.
[edit] Title Style
The introduction should have the article title within the first sentence. The title must be bolded (Be Bold!), and if the title is of a video game or anime, it must be italicized as well.
[edit] Infoboxes
If possible try to include the appropriate infobox. If a template does not exist yet, create one or leave a suggestion on the Community Portal page.
[edit] Point of View
Always write in third-person. Be as neutral as possible, and avoid in-universe writing as much as possible.
[edit] References
For the time being, in some way reference information when necessary. I prefer using the Modern Language Association style of citing sources, but as long as you are accurate and specific enough, any way is good.
[edit] Image Use
Excluding character descriptions, keep image use down to one per section. Size should be kept to a third or less than the page. Introduction sections should have images on the right side of the page. Images uploaded should be free. I am not clear as to if Wikia allows fair use claims because it is for-profit. If you upload an image, use it. Otherwise, unused images will be deleted.
[edit] Article Types
For the time being, there is not a need to categorize articles into specific namespaces (i.e. Game:Tales of Phantasia or Character:Lloyd Irving).
[edit] Game Articles
Game articles should an infobox with either the front box art or the logo.
[edit] Character Articles
Character articles should include an infobox and a portrait. Include all official English romanizations of the name and, if possible the Japanese. Character articles should be written biographically, but without creating your own fiction.
[edit] Aesthetics
[edit] Mascot
Currently, the mascot and icon for Aselia is Raine Sage, but there's been suggestions from the "Tales of" Series Guild on Gaia Online to change the mascot. The current suggestions are:
- Harold Belserius
- Philia
- All the scholar characters for all games
- One from the first two games (Phantasia, and Destiny?)
- Klarth
[edit] User Recognition
As an incentive for users to do their best when contributing, setting up some type of award system like the Barnstars on Wikipedia might be a good idea.
[edit] Title of the wiki
User:Meeps has proposed possibly changing the name of the wiki to something a little more representative of the series, the example he gave is "Magic Lens". See Talk:Main Page#Website Name for the original discussion.
[edit] Forum
At the moment I do not think there is a need for a forum, because of the lack of regularly contributing editors.
