Wild Geese (ToD PS2)

Wild Geese as it appears in the PlayStation 2 remake of Tales of Destiny.

Wild Geese (ワイルドギース / ワイルド・ギース Wairudogiisu / Wairudo Giisu?) is a mystic arte used primarily by Nanaly Fletcher from Tales of Destiny 2, as well as by Chelsea Torn in the PlayStation 2 remake versions of Tales of Destiny.

Arte Description and History[]

In most of this arte's appearances, the user begins by throwing a sphere of flame over the head of their opponent before shooting it with an arrow, causing it to explode. The user follows through by summoning a small vortex of fire at an arm's length away from them, then launches a series of arrow-shaped lasers through it and at the enemy that scatters afterwards. If the targeted enemy is close enough, the vortex of fire will cause damage. Unlike the mystic arte extensions that are used by the other female party members in Tales of Destiny 2, Wild Geese is not a summon, despite being a spell extension itself although it is extended from any spells in her repertoire.

In Tales of the Abyss, Nanaly appears as one of four cameo character enemies in the coliseum at Baticul, alongside Reid Hershel, Mint Adenade, and Philia Felice, as the final battle of the team tournament. Nanaly uses Wild Geese as her mystic arte, as its first appearance in a localized game. In the Japanese version, Nanaly begins with the vortex of fire, skipping the initial two motions. In the North American version, Wild Geese instead follows its original movements. However, the arrow-shaped lasers doesn't scatter but instead goes to a straight line.

In the remakes of Tales of Destiny, Chelsea Torn inherited Wild Geese as one of her Blast Calibers. Later, in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2, this mystic arte also replaced the Hunter class's former mystic arte, Astral Rain, sharing it together with Nanaly. Instead of being a spell extension, as it is in the original game, Wild Geese was modified to be activated through the use of arcane artes.

In Tales of Destiny 2, Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 3, and Tales of VS., an interpunct is added between "Wild" and "Geese".
