Arte Description and History
World Destroyer is practically a total-party kill attack in that it is almost impossible to evade, and if it is not evaded, it will guarantee a game over when it is activated. The arte will only be activated if the Barbatos is not attacked by the party for a set amount of time, after which Barbatos rests the head of his axe on the ground in front of him and charges it with his own rage and fury. His axe generates an aura of harmless white and orange flame for around four seconds. After this, he turns and swings the axe over his head, piercing the ground in front of him and rupturing the battlefield.
The damage from this arte can be nulled if the attack deals its damage effect during the invulnerability frames of certain artes available to some characters, such as Escape Air and Demon's Lance Zero. Additionally, characters can chain aerial artes to reach the top barrier of the battlefield, allowing them to bypass any possible damage as long as they are not above the epicenter of the attack.
In the PlayStation 3 version of Tales of Vesperia, when Patty Fleur uses her mystic arte Summon Friends, Barbatos will use an unnamed version of World Destroyer when he is summoned. In this game, he severely damages all entities on the battlefield, enemies and allies alike, and he forbids item usage for a set amount of time if the allies survive.
